That's me. Laid off by 911, unemployed consultant ever since. If I weren't such an old introverted geek, I would be on my way to being rich. For computer people, there thousands of small businesses drowning in computer problems. There just aren't any large, fat companies offering security and benefits right now.

It's not the first time Juan has parroted that line. Once before both Mort and Fred bodyslammed Juan to the mat because Juan brought up the line "jobless recovery". Juan generally does it when Brit is not in studio.

It is true. I know many people who are "consultants" including some who just started working for companies ad-hoc. They are paid when they work and are quite happy about it. They aren't included in any payroll survey, until they start filing their taxes quarterly I guess. Unemployment is 5.6% - pretty low if you ask me.
Stupid liberal Dims would try to talk down the economy if there was 100% employment.

All the Federal Express delivery people are "contractors" and no longer counted.
Computer companies hire thousands of computer consultants until they are ready to either hire permanently or make the decision that the position is not needed (downturn).

The liberals always have viewed the American economy through big businesses and the Unions. They still acts as if the losses in manufacturing is new thing.
The backbone of the is economy is small business and sole proprietorships and those jobs are not accurately represented in the payroll surveys.

Mort had a blistering rebuttal of his own for Juan. He really became animated when he lit into Williams for even trying to compare the kerry attacks on the President to these opening ads that the GOP are running presently. He also bristled at the spin that Williams was trying on kerry's latest "hate statement".
We are truly starting to get to the dims!!

Fred then cut him off and went onto forcefully explain the difference between the "payroll survey" which polls employers as to their employment info and the "household survey" which polls, well, households as to THEIR employment.Hey Fred! I'm cooking myself a burger for dinner this evening...
under the household survey, does that mean I have a manufacturing job?
To: The G Man
During the 30's, I understand that 75% of the workforce didn't lose their jobs...I assume they thought things were just fine and the economy was booming...
A fella I know who grew up on a farm back then didn't even know a depression was going on, except for what little they heard on the radio...

The household survey takes into account things like people who leave their jobs to become consultants, independent contractors, or to run home based businesses. Consultant translated means unemployed.
Now about those home based businesses - the ones where you can stuff envelopes and make $1,000 per week in your spare time - oh, come now.

We don't need to do anything. If what you say is true, there will be plenty of people making money at their jobs and this won't be a factor in the booth.

I was talking to a stroing conservative the other day who was worried about the Repoublicans' vulnerability to the jobs issue. I mention the 5.6% unemployment rate and that its the same as 1996 and he wasn't even aware of it. Keep passing on this one fact to not only liberals but your conservative friends because not all of them are aware of it. There is no unemployment problem by historic standards. I may lose my job tommorrow but that's life.
