Judge Prevents Terri Schiavo's Parents From Intervening in Terri's Law Case

Clearwater, FL (LifeNews.com) -- For a second time, Circuit Court Judge Douglas Baird has prevented the parents of Terri Schiavo from joining Governor Jeb Bush in defending Terri's Law.

Baird prevented Robert and Mary Schindler from participating in November 2003 and the Schindlers appealed his decision. A Florida appeals court last month rebuked Baird and said he failed to follow proper guidelines when dismissing the intervention request.

That didn't stop Baird from denying a second request to participate.

Baird said the legal rights of the Shindlers were not affected by the outcome of the case, which concerns a law passed by the state legislature authorizing Governor Bush to ask doctors to reinsert the feeding tube that is providing Terri with nutrition.

"In order for the Schindlers to be entitled to intervene in this cause, they must demonstrate an interest in the matter in litigation of such a direct and immediate character that they will either gain or lose by the direct legal operation and effect of judgment," Baird wrote in his opinion.

Terri's father Robert Schindler, told LifeNews.com that he and Mary have tremendous interest in Terri's well-being -- more so than Terri's estranged husband Michael.

"Imagine being told that you have no interest in your own child," Terri's father told LifeNews.com. "I just cannot understand why this court continues to deny our daughter protection but affords so much to her guardian."

"Terri is our daughter, our eldest child and a human being that we are bound to by both love and responsibility," Robert continued. "I just can't understand how any judge would think that her mother and I have no interest in protecting her life."

A pro-life law firm that is handling the intervention request for the Schindlers says it is considering appealing Baird's decision.

Vigiling for Terri at the Image of Mary Landmark

We Vigiled today nearby the Image of Mary in Clearwater. At least ten to 15 of us showed up today and we were able to get Bay News 9 to show up. So far today Saturday, they haven't shown what they filmed with their camera on Bay News 9 but they filmed individuals and our signs with some scenes of the vigilers including the Schindlers. Maybe they spiked it or are holding it for tomorrow. The producers get the last word.

I always say at least they showed up. The media needs to know that we're still helping Terri even if they don't broadcast it.

The Church was uneasy about any signage and we did have to move our portable tent off of their property. We picked up the large square tent southward and I even pulled some weeds at the new location. One of Terri's supporters who came all the way from Chicago furnished pizzas.

A senior couple asked me what was going on. They were from out of town and big surprise, they thought Terri was in a COMA. I explained the situation to them and asked them to pass it on back home. They wished us good luck.

They are doing heavy construction at U.S. 19 and Drew St. We took the BOLD, CONTROVERSIAL signs out to the highway. I got caught up with friends I met back in October, 2003. Terri's parents were also there for awhile.

The Church that owns the building is saying prayers every day for Terri when they hold services. Since the image of Mary was vandalized, the building owners put plain glass where Mary's head and veil used to be. Who knows why but they put a computer type monitor on an alter facing out. It looks like Mary has a monitor for a head. It looks like attendance may be down because of the vandalism. There was an early crowd there but by afternoon, the chairs were empty. I went over to that area right before I left and said a prayer for the world to cover all bases.

If Judge Rapkin runs unopposed, are people in his jurisdiction stupid enough to vote for him instead of ABSTAINING? Is anyone campaigning against Rapkin when he's up for re-election? I think Terri and Carlie's situations are somewhat related because both matters involve BAD JUDGES who should be given the boot.

O'Reilly discussed Rapkin with a former prosecuter and then urged him to oppose Rapkin. I think his name was Hoveghan or Horavan??

Bill O'R said he'd help him or anyone else who would run against Rapkin.

Thanks for your report on the vandalized image of Mary in Clearwater. It took my breath away the first time I saw it in 1997....truly amazing! Has there been any progress in catching the vandals?

Thanks for your comments. Bay News 9 covered us at 10 pm Saturday night and after the sports show, i.e. 1 a.m. etc. I don't know if anybody was watching but at least they showed up when another Terri supporter called them from her cell. The trouble is that the local media "is protecting the Judges" or protecting their stations from getting in trouble with our judicial system or politicians. In my opinion, that's what's going on. The political stuff gets left on the cutting room floor and only the "warm and fuzzy" Terri soundbites are aired. THE TRUTH IS NOT ALLOWED TO BE HEARD AT THIS TIME.

If even a few of those outlets had reported the truth as it was being filmed from the hospice lawn Terri would probably already be in safe hands....

Terri's battle for her civil rights is the most life affirming experience I've ever been through, bar none. My take is shared by countless others.

Our vigil was not on bay news 9's web site as of yesterday. They showed it Sat night and early Sun a.m. only. But, think of what Terri's competing with - elections, terrorism, Hollyweird, The Passion, that kook in California.

I stand by making Terri return address labels for yourself and others. That way, her web site url underneath your address is seen by lots of folks handling it through snail mail including the recipient. I made my mom a page of labels. She loves them - let's start a fad.
