My dog got into it with a coyote two days ago. I just let her out to go to the bathroom for a minute and he popped right up behind her. She has some nasty scratches, but it looks like she'll be fine. I'd hate to loose her.

Last winter I saw the strangest thing as I pulled into our driveway one night. A coyote sitting in a tree! Granted, it was a low branch, but it sure looked funny perched up there like that!

Sorry to hear about Dublin, but for better or worse, the coyote is doing what coyotes do. Maybe the Borawskis ought to consider getting Shannon a big brother...Rottweiler, German shepherd, something like that. Even the odds, don't you know.

Sad story...but the southwest has had this problem for years. One morning early I looked out to a field and saw a brown mound. My first thought was damn it, those pesky gophers have dug another tunnel. Walking up to the scene I found the neighbors cat neatly eviscerated. Some days you're the windshield...some days you're the bug.

The dead coyotes I found the next morning and the lack of them howling very often is a pretty good indicator that my dogs are doing their job. But you're right, just because it's a big dog doesn't mean it can hang with a wild animal like a coyote, but in this case it does.

My smallest dog weighs about 75 lbs and can handle himself pretty well and my biggest one weighs over 100 lbs, but truthfully they are just pets. I've never raised them to be mean and they aren't regardless of the way they may look.

That way one of their dogs could eat the other, saving a few days dog food on the larger one. Let the damn coyote get his own!

Don't be too sure about the safety of any dog when dealing with a pack of coyotes. A friend of mine lost a German Shepherd to a pack of coyotes in Arizona. Coyotes are smart pack hunters.

I hear that ranchers out West have started keeping llamas and ostriches around their sheep to fight off coyotes.

Over the past twenty years there has been a lot of housing developments built in my area. I have had numerous cats taken and eaten by coyotes.

I have seen them in my front yard, jumping fences, etc. Can't really blame them they are hungry and will eat what they can get.
