The Moron Vote (Unfortunately, that includes some of us.)
Town Hall ^ | March 12, 2003 | R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. [Creators Syndicate]

Readers of this column will remember, as apparently political scientists and pundits have not, that in the rancorous months before the Democratic primaries got underway, I identified that one dynamic new political constituency that would decide the winner.

In years gone by, the dynamic constituency was the youth vote. And there was the year of the women's vote. This year as we watched Dr. Howard Dean gain the role of frontrunner, the veins in his neck bursting, his face an angry gnarl of sneers and grimaces, it became obvious that the dynamic new force in the Democratic primary was the moron vote. That is to say the angry, stupid, political neurotic who has proceeded into middle age convinced that the world is against him-her.

These indignant morons saw Dr. Howard Dean tear off his suit coat, roll up his sleeves and approach the microphone as though he were about to chew on it, and they beheld Deliverance — Deliverance from all the woe and perfidy that has held them back, given them lower-back pain, caused the seat of their pants to split the night they attended the professional wrestling match and brought George W. Bush to the throne.

Of course, Dr. Howard Dean's ascendancy could not last. His anger was directed too widely. He threatened the Democratic hierarchy and even Terence McAuliffe, chairman of the Democratic National Committee and winner of three purple hearts, six silver stars and the Campfire Girls' Award for a Clean Tent. Suddenly, materials were being leaked from Dr. Howard Dean's past, the most significant being his mid-1990s letter to President Bill Clinton. That letter along with other leaked materials fatally weakened the frontrunner's hold on the moron vote.

Sadly , The Moron Vote includes doctrinaire Libertarians, paleoconservatives, other 'conservative' single-issue voters who demand ideological purity in their candidates and the like.

-snip-

The next President's biggest task will be to continue fighting the War on Terror. This is a War that must be won at all costs. All other concerns pale in comparison to this single issue. What good will it do us to be free of a deficit if our cities are continually subject to terrorist attacks? What good will a free market Medicare plan do if our seniors are facing a greater danger from dirty bombs? Does anyone truly believe that Kerry is better than Bush on defense issues?

Second, the next President will almost certainly be asked to make an appointment to the Supreme Court. It is imperative for our freedoms that this new Justice be one who will uphold, not create, the law. Legislatures, not judges (or rebellious mayors for that matter), should create our law regarding recognition of same-sex marriages, recitals of the Pledge of Allegiance in schools, and installation of Ten Commandments monuments in public buildings. The President has shown himself willing and able to appoint judges who will respect and uphold the decisions of our elected officials. Kerry, by contrast, has supported filibusters of such judges.

Those who care about freedom in this country must ensure that Bush, not Kerry, is Commander-in-Chief during these dangerous times. Those who love freedom must ensure that Bush, not Kerry, makes the next appointment to the Supreme Court.

Does it include 'single issue' commentators? You seem to have a pretty boring hate-on for libertarians.

Wait a second-- your moron vote was Tyrrell February 12, 2004, not my moron vote. March 12, 2004,-- different article, same topic.

Please forgive. I got to readjust my tinfoil.

other 'conservative' single-issue voters who demand ideological purity in their candidates and the like.

And which single issue purity violations are OK with you?

Abortion on demand?
Campaign Finance Reform?
Open Boarders?
Amnesty?
2nd Amendment?
Gay Marriage?

Or feel free to pick from any other list.

What might hurt Kerry is if the Republicans demand of him what the Democrats have demanded of President Bush, a review of his government records.

How long can it be before someone manages to steal a copy of his records and sell them to the National Enquirer for big bucks?

Moron voters = people who vote for what they DON'T want.

Moron voters = people who think they can persuade others to vote for their candidate by calling them morons.

Silly me, I seriously doubt that Karl Rove and "crew" as you so put will be casting a vote for John Kerry. But I do know a few idiots that will not be voting for Kerry's strongest opponent and surrenduring like the French would to loser Democrats.

But it's alright, I'm well aware of who these idiots are and will enjoy telling them to STFU for at least the 4 years after Kerry is elected for everytime they whine about something that Kerry does.

Although I suspect most of them won't be showing their face around here anymore. Because there jobs as DU stooges will have been complete.

Look I voted for Bush, and surely will again, but some one in that campaign better wise up and understand that they can't just pi$$ on the base and expect everything to turn out well. That includes your mindless support of everything the President does. Telling people to STFU really shows the breadth of your understanding, or lack thereof.

How does this campaign hear the genuine complaints of their supporters, if everyone stays on there knees?
