Planned Parenthood, a frequent critic of the "religious right," has hired a chaplain to "articulate the spiritual dimensions of sexuality and reproduction."
The Rev. Ignacio Castuera, a Methodist, will fill the newly created post, from which he will "act as a public spokesperson to promote Planned Parenthood's mission and vision," the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) announced earlier this week.
"Reverend Castuera will bring to the PPFA family his wealth of experience in ministry, especially his efforts over the last 24 years to address sexuality issues. His expertise in offering spiritual insight and guidance to the reproductive health movement is invaluable," said Planned Parenthood President Gloria Feldt.
At a recent pro-abortion rally in Texas, Feldt reportedly said that Planned Parenthood created the chaplain position to counter the perception that most Christians oppose abortion.
The Rev. Dr. Ignacio Castuera currently serves as Senior Pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church in the Watts community of Los Angeles. He holds degrees from Compton College; California State University, Long Beach; and a Doctor of Religion degree from the Claremont School of Theology, Planned Parenthood said.
Rev. Castuera is described as a "strong advocate for choice" and a "staunch supporter" of Planned Parenthood, who has participated in "clinic defense" and served on the PPFA board of directors. He has been a member of the PPFA Clergy Advisory Board since its inception in 1994.
Rev. Castuera is on record as saying that a fetus is not a child.
According to the Planned Parenthood press release, Castuera "will play a pivotal role in communicating the theological justification for choice, sexuality, and contraception to the Planned Parenthood community and the general public.
"He will also be available to provide advice to volunteer and staff leadership on moral and ethical issues around our mission. In addition, Dr. Castuera will work with affiliates to expand their relationships with religious leaders and organizations in their communities.""
Nothing more needs to be said.
There is no "theological justification" for baby murder.
sexuality,
Sexuality is a gift from God. He has done a superb job of "justifying" this gift since the beginning of time. He does not need help from this apostate with a collar.
... and contraception to the Planned Parenthood community and the general public.
That would be hilarious if it were not so deranged. These people are truly ill.
Choose what, Rev?
Choosing to suck a baby down a sink because the baby is inconvenient, that's what!
Figgures. "Open minds, Open hearts, Open sewers" crowd. That's why I'm not one anymore.
"The Rev. Dr. Ignacio Castuera currently serves as Senior Pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church in the Watts community of Los Angeles."
Well, that takes care of that one ... if he isn't a member, then I would doubt taht he would be a senior pastor.
"...all the Methodists I know are staunchly pro-life."
I left Methodism because I found exactly the opposite in the United Methodist Church. My experience has been that, until the recent appointment of a homosexual to the heirarchy of the Episocopalians, no church system has been more liberal, more unChristian, more apostate than the United Methodist.
This is interesting, because I have heard some of the strongest supporters of abortion rights say, off the record, that abortion should be mandatory for women of color when they have no way to take care of the babies they are having.
Use it to control the black population and those most likely to end up on welfare.
Use baby killing as a tool to help control an undesirable element of the population and government spending.
Uncle Adolf would find this familiar.
I think the United Methodists are in the top four, but I don't know if they are the Pied Pipers of Apostasy. The United Church of Christ has to be No. 1. It was the first denom to have open homosexuals as pastors at a time when there wasn't a cultural rush to do so (1967, I believe).
The Presbyterian Church USA and Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) both pay for abortions in churchworkers' health care plans. That way, if baby Johnny or Jane gets in the way of ministry, they can properly terminate him or her with $ that comes from the offering plate. If you're in the Pres USA plan, you can't even have a conscientious objection and opt out of the plan.
Even conservative denoms aren't fully off the hook here. It used to be--and still may be for the Southern Baptists--that the churchworker health plan was thru Prudential. I know the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod plan for a while was thru Prudential.
Prudential has been a long-time corporate grant supporter of Planned Parenthood; has a # of Planned Parenthood abortionists on their PPOs; gives grants to pro-abortion and school based health clinics (which refers students to abortion clinics); has promoted a quality-of-life ethic in numerous ways; etc, etc, etc. About all health insurance companies are linked to the abortion industry (insurance industry pays for approximately 13% of all abortions)...but Prudential was involved in more ways than any other in the 90s.
