A PET PRESS CORPS

March 10, 2004 -- JOHN Kerry is doing something very clever. He's launched a pre-emptive strike against GOP attempts to raise legitimate questions about his political record and his character by warning voters about the "Republican smear machine."

The idea, clearly, is to discredit any negative ads from the Bush-Cheney campaign before they even appear. Indeed, Kerry's surrogates have taken to linking any reproach of the Democratic candidate, no matter what the source, directly to the president.

This is cool. I remember when non of these dots were ever connected publicly and we were at the mercy of the NY Slimes and Co.

Nice to see the biases exposed for all to see.

The major media have been helping out the 'cRat propaganda machine for years. This election year will take this collusion to new heights. And the new campaign financing law won't help either. Doesn't it prohibit a lot of political spending (TV time) in the last weeks of the campaign??

Therefore the biased media gets to dominate the least few weeks, gets to twist and turn the election their way.

As "The Note," ABC News' daily political memo, conceded Feb. 10, "the Washington and political press corps operate with a good number of biases and predilections."

Amazing to see ABC News admit that the Washington Press corps has biases, even if it does not specify that those biases almost exclusively are to the benefit of the left.

After all it is obvious to all but the most jaded extreme leftist that the press is out there running interference for them.

John F. Kerry and the DNC may have a coordinated press corps slavishly following every twist and turn of the party line but they can't get away with it like in the old days, thanks to the Internet and the rise of alternative media like Townhall.com, Worldnetdaily.com, Frontpagepag.com, MediaResearchCenter.com and our own beloved FreeRepublic.com. Today, the media has competition and Kerry no longer gets a free pass with the public remaining in ignorance of his and his party's true views. The VRWC is alive and well.

The Republicans are playing a game where the opposition is allowed to bend the rules and have an extra player on the floor...Big Media. The deck is stacked against Bush, so he has to come out swinging. I'd only do so many of those feel-good-inspirational music ads before I lay it out to the American public just exactly what John Kerry's record is and what a disaster he'd be as prez.

In fact, much of the press seems eager to help him out as he challenges a president who, it's fair to say, is not popular with the Washington press corps.

The bias is really getting blatant. The 9/11 ad flap is just one example of how the reporters didn't even try to include an equal amount of pro and anti comments, nor did they mention the groups which the professional victims were involved with. Disgusting.

I would submit there's the possibility the media is also calling the plays. They at least operate from the same playbook. The Dim's social agenda would get NO traction in this country were it not for their handlers in the media. How could a non-entity like F'in Kerry survive in this world without taking his lead from the media? The man(?) has no positions of his own.

Of course, this aggressive stance could easily backfire: Too many public complaints about what many will see as justifiable critiques of his record runs the risk of making Kerry and the Democrats look like a bunch of whiny crybabies.

They already do. Kerry and the Crybabies...new flip-flop (as opposed to hip hop) band.

They at least operate from the same playbook.

That’s it in a nutshell

They all are operating out of the same playbook.

Kerry's strategy is to claim Bush has sinned, even though it's just made up. Anyone can be the Kerry speech writer. Watch me:
"Already they've begun to throw personal smears at me."
"The campaign has barely begun and already I've been personally attacked."
"I knew the other side would get nasty, and look what they're doing."
"I'm on the high road, but look where they're taking this campaign."
It's all about setting a tone. Doesn't matter if there's a grain of truth to any of it. No specifics. Keep it real general so there's room to wiggle out if challenged.
Come to think of it, Kerry doesn't need a speech writer, just a random sentence generator..

It's all about setting a tone.

It’s all about misdirection. Like a Magician.

While Kerry hurls his smears at Bush he cries out in righteous indignation that the vast right wing conspiracy is trying to derail his campaign by bringing up his past.

Hey you guys look over there and see what those guys are doing so you don’t see what I am doing here.

Do you think any reporter will ever ask Kerry for an example of these "negative personal attacks" by President Bush? I'd love to see that, but know better than to hope for it.

There was an amazing incident a couple of weeks ago: Kerry, campaigning in Dayton, Ohio, delivered a boring rendition of his economic message, leaving TV reporters without a usable soundbite. Until, that is, a producer for Dan Rather's "CBS Evening News" asked him to try again. This time he came up with something more memorable - which was used on that night's broadcast.

Well, you have to give credit to Dan Rather. He coached his favorite horse, but he didn't fabricate quotes for his story, which is more often the case at major newspapers like the NY Times and Wash Post. Rather comes from a long line of reporters who would prefer to monkey with the results, as did NBC in the exploding gas tank sham or ABC's spoiled meat deception.
