Whether Kerry will crash and burn in November isn't as easy as some pundits consider. Their predictions dismiss one very important factor, for many people they won't be voting for Kerry, they will be voting to get rid of President Bush.

Folks shouldn't underestimate the viseral hatred the left has for President Bush...and also remember that for most of the voting left the character of their candidate makes no difference.

First, he's not a very attractive guy. Although he reportedly pays $150 for a style and shampoo and, as some say, shells out the money for botox, the guy is not going to grab voters who base their decisions on looks.

I have to give Kyle complete deference here. What is it with the Parasite Class that they'll elect primates with that look-down-your-nose, authoritarian, pseudo-Van Gogh appearance to them? Mikulski, Kerry, Kucinich, Gephardt, Waxman, et al? It seems like the uglier they are, the more liberal they are. Maybe that explains their liberalism - none of them could get dates to the senior prom, and they're angry at the rest of the world.

LOL! Not really. Most of those so called original base are third party supporters who never voted for him to begin with and who daily come up with ever more reasons why they aren't going to vote for him again.

You are correct in one thing, just like buchanan and his patsies the last election, they will do everything they can to defeat President Bush.

The important thing is that people of common sense and reasoning not fall prey to those who push that agenda. Every vote will count, but a vote the President never had, and never will, is something that just has to be factored in with the other Kerry supporters.

Oh, he's speaking the truth in his sort of way.

If you recall buchanan kept insisting that his goal as a candidate wasn't the throw the election to Gore. He even said that he would not actively campaign in states that were close.

And as soon as he got his hands on the reform party money, paid his debts from his last campaign and rakes off a nice chuck for himself, he proceeded to actively campaign in closely contested states...and he campaigned against Governor Bush directly.

Then remember buchanan on TV during the Florida fiasco, claiming that people who had voted for him actually meant to vote for Gore.

Just look at many threads here on FR. That same spirit is alive and well...and actively working to defeat President Bush.

People need to be aware of not just the importance of this election, but of the threats. They aren't just from the democrats.

I agree, in reality I think GWB has tried to base his presidency on doing the right thing, regardless of who it makes mad, doing the right thing will always p*ss someone off, no matter what. It take a leader to make those calls, we have very few of those in washington right now.

Add in the pubbie "W is a sitting president and will win even if I don't vote" factor, along with the conservatives W has been agitating sitting the election out to send a message. Take those into consideration, and we have a horse race.

Bottom line is pubbies better get out the vote or we're looking at a one termer.

I don't think he's purposely gone out of his way to offend. Actually, think about it. What would it be like to govern a people as diverse as America? There are plenty of things we the populace react to that we don't really know all the facts about. As long as we cry foul as we play our arm-chair acting-president act, we'll always be disappointed by any move that doesn't go along with our own opinion. While I don't like all Bush has done, I have to admit that I do not feel he has purposely tried to offend his base. There are things that just have to be done (in his opinion) that we may not agree with, but that he feels needs to be done. For example, he has stated support for an amendment to codify marriage as only between a man and a woman. Lots of Republican-voting gays are now mad at him. Do you think he should retract that position?
As president, any of your decisions has the natural effect of possibly offending large numbers of your base. You cannot be like Kerry and say whatever you think will make people like you more. You have to make some decisions ultimately, and some will not be popular. He's not a perfect man. I'm not perfect either. I've made plenty of decisions based on my personal preference, opinions, desires, and 'whatever', to my own chagrin because of the outcome. If some of these were really poor decisions, I would hope he'll learn from them. Maybe some he'll be able to reign in the effects of later. Some decisions take time to see the whole effect, and he may possibly have made some choices that weren't so far off the mark, even if they weren't popular. We didn't like all Reagan's ideas and decisions at the time, but many of them turned out to be remarkably prescient. The more we openly gripe about Bush, the more we risk swaying the vote against him. The issue that still is the most important in this election, as should always be, is integrity of character. He is far above Kerry on that issue. That IS the issue, really since we have no perfect person runnig!

You are correct. These people were the ones with "kick me" signs plastered on their backs in high school. They are losers who have discovered their path to power and prestige (with fellow RATS)lies with being liberal politicians, and the more extreme they are, the better, because more adulation is thrown their way.

This is true. There are some who will never vote for a Republican. There are some who will never vote for a Democtrat. Neither group has enough to win elections. It is the soft undecided in the middle that will decide. Kerry will have to appeal to them, and that is where he (Kerry) is weak.

The American people have had three years to watch President Bush, they have had a chance to decide for themselve if they like and trust him. This is his strength.

As the undecided get to know more about Kerry, the less they will like him.
