Here is a serious question. How old are you and what is your work experience? I don’t mean it is a sinister way I just want a handle on where your perspective comes from.

So in other words you are young and are in the employed capacity but yet you are feel qualified to expound on what is wrong with American enterprise and all its ills. Is that about right?

Friend those degrees are not worth the paper they are written on until you actually apply them in the real world. You don't even know what you don't know yet.

I wrote: "The downside is that half of those jobs created are for government employees, and the other half for illegal aliens." To which you collectively replied: "You made the claim now back it up."

Are you too touchy to recognize satirical criticism? Since Bush has been in office, he's been spending enormous amounts of our tax dollars on bloated government programs (hence, the reference to "half the jobs created for government employees"), and he's been enticing more illegal aliens to stream into America with his overtures of amnesty and other open-border concessions to Vicente Fox (hence the reference to "half the jobs going to illegals").

Was my comment an exaggeration? Yes, probably... eh, possibly... eh, hmmm, well who knows? With one out of seven Americans working for some branch of government in this country, it isn't a stretch to imagine 1.2 million new government jobs being created in a four year period under any spendthrift president. And with the almost complete abrogation of control of our borders, combined with a "do not deport" attitude, combined with an offer of amnesty... well, again it isn't difficult to imagine that the ranks of 7-9 million illegal aliens haven't swelled by another million in the past four years.

When it comes to criticizing the Dems, I guess all's fair. But don't we dare criticize "one of our own," eh? Fortunately, I'm an independent conservative so I can criticize any politician who fails to uphold the Constitution and promote conservative principles.

Wonder what the individual state unemployemt rates are? Tenn is 4.9% right now. BELOW the national average. Yes there are pockets like rural areas that have very little industry. My town of 9,000 (20 miles from Memphis) has 3 new buildings going up, Walgreens and Lowes, don't know what the other is....they added two other new ones last year a Lenny's sub and a Paint/flooring store..all new buildings in a town that hasn't seen a new one since the Super Wal-Mart went in a few years ago. Also the two largest Baptist churches are building NEW churches to house their growing congregrations.

Riddle me this...if we have supposedly lost 2.3 mil jobs under Bush, then WHY are there more employed now than when Clinton was in office? Those monthly 'jobs' figures we keep hearing about are starting to be as worthless as consumer sentiment.

Though 75 percent of jobs are created by small companies, according to the Small Business Administration, this sector's entrepreneurial activity and the jobs it creates are left out by Washington bean counters when calculating official new job numbers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) does its Payroll Survey by phoning businesses to crunch the number of jobs that have been gained or lost. This is where Democrats grabbed onto their lifeline, the 2.3 million figure. Look only at the Payroll Survey, and there has been a gain of only 522,000 jobs since Bush took office.

LOL guess I should've read the whole article, those montly jobs figures ARE bunk, like the one we heard yesterday. Telephone surveys? Puhleeeease.

If there are 138 mil working right now and that is the highest its ever been, then jobs have NOT been lost.

Heh..good wiggle work.

Unfortunately, what you say about our president is true. Despite that, I'm still voting for him because I also recognize his strong leadership and character in times when such traits are essential.

You cannot trust the nation's security to a RAT!!
Pure and Simple.

It's getting hard to tell -- is this exaggerated sarcasm again?

Bashing-bush is easy, for that anyone can just make up the numbers.   Earning a living is a bit more demanding.    For those of us who need econ data to feed our families, an clear understanding of hard economic realities has to be a lot better than what someone might need for say, winning a political argument.  That's why we first checked the places like  BEA and BLS sites, and then faced that fact that more people are working now than ever before, and they're making better wages than ever before.  Like it or not.

Then again, when we want to bash-bush we just make up numbers (ALERT: that last part was facetious).
