NEW YORK -- More than a dozen families who lost relatives in the Sept. 11 attacks released an "Open Letter to America" Saturday declaring their support for President Bush and his use of images of the destroyed World Trade Center in campaign ads.
"There is no better testament to the leadership of President Bush than Sept. 11," the letter states. "In choosing our next leader we must not forget that day if we are to have a meaningful conversation."
"In the November election we will have a clear choice laid before the American people," the letter reads. "President Bush is rightly offering us that choice and the images of Sept. 11, although painful, are fundamental to that choice. The images in President Bush's campaign television ads are respectful of the memories of Sept. 11."

This is good. Get this out to the Battleground states. This will win votes.
But . . . here we are reacting again instead of staying on the attack.

Of course it is nowhere to be found on CNN or any of those other fair-minded liberal media outlets that are objective, fair and have no agenda!

"Jimmy Boyle, former president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, spearheaded the letter, signed by 22 people who lost loved ones _ mostly firefighters _ in the Trade Center attacks." " Boyle, who said he will be voting for a Republican president for the first time in November, said he decided to ask other families to sign the letter after hearing that the president was being criticized for using Sept. 11 images in campaign ads."
Atta boy Jimmy. Welcome to the unofficial association of New York Irishmen who have seen the light.

Newsday is nothing more than a liberal rag, but it's the only paper on Long Island. I'm stunned they actually printed the story. I'll bet there's a lot more than 22 family members of victims that would sign that letter though.

This is awesome. But, I won't hold my breath waiting for it to show up anywhere that has high visibility. :-(

It only took about two and a half years for a collective amnesia to overtake part of our population. The families of those who were sacrificed to the events of 9/11 have been treated with increasing shabbiness by the "reformers" of current opinion, first by dissing their very real grief and loss, then by suggesting that perhaps President Bush "overreacted" by going after the networks and infrastructure of the Islamofascists, first in Afghanistan, then in Iraq. But this strategic offensive by the US has had a most salubrious effect on most of the rest of the world of Islam, and while they still do not love us unreservedly, they certainly respond with alacricy when certain casual inquiries are made, as in the case of Libya. Even Iran seems not so truculent, especially since France is now about half-way on board. (France may be the next Muslim country we will have to tackle.) North Korea, even though it is not a Muslim country, is a tougher nut to crack, but our confrontation with them is no longer unilateral.

I'm stunned they actually printed the storyIf it is an "Open Letter to America", why didn't they print it, or link to it somewhere?
They did half a job, I'll give them half a cheer.

But . . . here we are reacting again instead of staying on the attack. I see it differently. Bush showed the WTC in ads. That started it. Who'd a thunk such an expression was controversial? Then, "out of the woodwork," several people who lost loved ones on 9/11/01 (and who have been openly and organized critical of Bush in the interim) get big mass media air-time, protesting the ads.
Decent people are reserved in thier criticism. But when prodded (in this case by professional victims, pardon my expression), it is okay to show support. Showing support before being attacked would not have been appropriate.
