NEW YORK -- More than a dozen families who lost relatives in the Sept. 11 attacks released an "Open Letter to America" Saturday declaring their support for President Bush and his use of images of the destroyed World Trade Center in campaign ads.
"There is no better testament to the leadership of President Bush than Sept. 11," the letter states. "In choosing our next leader we must not forget that day if we are to have a meaningful conversation."
"In the November election we will have a clear choice laid before the American people," the letter reads. "President Bush is rightly offering us that choice and the images of Sept. 11, although painful, are fundamental to that choice. The images in President Bush's campaign television ads are respectful of the memories of Sept. 11."

I see it differently. Bush showed the WTC in ads. That started it. Who'd a thunk such an expression was controversial? Then, "out of the woodwork," several people who lost loved ones on 9/11/01 (and who have been openly and organized critical of Bush in the interim) get big mass media air-time, protesting the ads. I've mentioned this before: when the ads first came out, Chris Matthews had Dem and Repub strategists on his show to analyze the ads. Nobody, including Matthews himself, said a word about the 9/11 stuff; they all thought the ads were fine, including Steve McMahon, who's a bigtime lib. Now all of a sudden, these ads have become a firestorm, thanks to some professional victims with an axe to grind.

I had thought that post-Sept 11th, fireman and President Bush had a new and special kinship. The rank and file seems to be on board but the union bosses, as usual, have their heads up their A$$es.

From what I'm told, President Bush will be on LongIsland on March 11 to dedicate a memorial here for all those who died. We lost a lot of people at the WTC.
It will be interesting to see the media only show the protesters. I'll bet there will be many more supporters than revolters. I may just take the day off from work so I can show my support for Bush that day.

So far I have called Fox, email CNN, and called CBS requesting that they publish this statement. The group for 9/11 families for peaceful tomorrows are also protesting outside military installations. I have complained that they are giving large press to the antiwar group and ignoring the other side.

Wasn't it amazing how Katie had those two women on complaining about the ads before they were even shown? I wonder how those women surfaced so fast?

I believe I heard somewhere, can't remember where, that W's camp had given the RATS heads up on the content of the Ads that were going to be aired on Thursday! WHY OH WHY do the pubs always fail to keep their damn mouths SHUT! You don't show the enemy your war plans before you hit, NEVER!! It's time to play dirty! I hope the pubs have learned their lesson!! :(

I was wondering the same thing, it was only a day after right? I also want to add that KATIE needs a slap of reality. She makes me ill with her smugness and "it's all about me attitude"!!!
grrr sometimes I wish I was blind again, but the crazy left would still be there.

it is possible that karl rove might have set up the dems on this. all the media flurry has made people aware of the ads (I haven't seen them, but i keep reading about them). Now, the tide is rising--other 9/11 families are coming out to support bush, and Newsday, which is essentially the voice of the democratic party on long island, has published a pro-bush article. the fact that newdsay would publish this article is absolutely astonishing--newsday is like the ny times.

Thanks Pokey. Glad to see the firefighters support the President.

It is pretty clear that the DNC had these political "victims" rounded up and ready to respond months ago knowing full well that President Bush would somehow use his remarkable leadership during the 911 disaster in his re-election campaign.
The DNC and its minions are s sick bunch who deserve nothing less than brutal defeat (again..).

professional victims Why is it that people who lost loved ones have some superiority here? My city and country were attacked.
I say, "Up yours," to anyone who claims any greater standing in 9/11 than any of the rest of us.
Folks who have been paying attention know that I don't think much of President Bush, but these attacks on him are revolting.
I might even change my mind and vote for him come November.

President Bush has invited Kerry to play poker. He just didn't tell the French looking candidate that the Bush poker game involves long red hot cast iron shafts often found in fireplaces.
