March 6, 2004 -- ALBANY - Maverick New Paltz Mayor Jason West yesterday abruptly called off his plan to perform up to two dozen more gay marriage ceremonies today. West's cave-in came the day after Ulster County District Attorney Donald Williams told The Post he might seek jail time for the mayor if West continues to ignore the law.

Toss his little green butt in jail where he can get some first hand experience with the joys he's promoting.

"One source said the retreat came after Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's aides warned West that he faces an injunction and even possible ouster from office."

Why should a repeat offending mayor be allowed to remain in office when a one-time offending judge in Alabama is removed?

The Left certainly has unequal standards - if any standards at all.

I take a public official breaking the law somewhat more seriously than I do some punk breaking the law. If we hold cops to a higher standard then THIS JERK should lose his job AND be thrown in jail.

Exactly!!! We hear all about what "civil disobedience" heroes they are, but when it comes time to take the consequences of their principled stand, he's outta here. Guess what, "civil disobedience" means more than braving the bright lights of CNN.

LOL, your post reminds me of a death-penalty closing argument I once heard a prosecutor give. The perp had been found guilty of capital murder, and then they'd had the penalty phase, and it was getting to be time for the jury to decide btw life in prison, or death. This particular perp happened to be homosexual; I believe the crime was related to a homosexual trick or one-night-stand, so there'd been evidence on that subject. The prosecutor said (among other things) "Ladies and gentlemen, sending this homosexual to prison for life is like sending a baby to a candy factory!!"

Jailtime seems to bring them into line everytime. That's what they should give Hitlery and Booba.

So much for this guy being the champion of civil disobience. It's easy to break the law if you face no consequences!

This morning - during that foggy space between asleep and awake - I had a dream of a straight couple going to one of these "gay marriage" ceremonies and getting the judge all confused.

When I woke up, I thought - what a great idea. Have a straight couple show up and have the judge refuse to do the marriage -- "I'm sorry, we're only doing gay weddings right now, come back next week". Then sue the judge for "equal rights" and all. I bet it could happen. (If you could find a normal couple willing to risk getting actually married under such circumstances.)

Very creative idea. However, IMO, it wouldn't work, alas. Any heterosexual couple who would use getting married to make a political statement is probably not going to last as a married couple. And if they didn't last as a couple, then their marriage (the right to which would have been won by that lawsuit you mentioned), would be held up as yet another example of, "See? THEY don't do any better at marriage than WE would!"

Then there are the people who wouldn't get married just to make a political statement. IMO, these people's marriages will have more staying power, b/c they are the types who THINK before marrying.

That's why I think the great majority of these homosexual "marriages" will come back to bite the homosexual activists in the butt: they're not gonna last. Those people don't really know what marriage is; they know they love to burlesque normal life, and that's what they're doing. It seems to be the marching orders of the homo activist leaders that their drone-followers are to simply take every opportunity to trivialize and ridicule marriage.

Thus, you will find them speaking lightly of "marrying" someone or something, simply b/c they like them/it.
