[history]
March 6, 2004 -- Martha Stewart's goose isn't just cooked - it's burned to a crisp. In a swift, decisive verdict that shocked America, a Manhattan jury yesterday branded the one-time golden girl a dumb criminal who lied to the feds, obstructed justice and conspired to protect herself and her one-time billion-dollar honey pot.

It's a good thing.

I'd not be surprised to see her flee the country rather than spend time in prison, taking orders from people who actually shop at K-Mart.

Her spin machine was out in force. They keep trying to spin her as "the underdog" and the "victim" in all of this.
I even heard a commentator who said this was only because she was not a man. please.
She was convicted of arrogance.

I just wish that Hillary didn't get away with her insider shady deal. She should at least get the same treatment as Martha Stewart.

I'd be surprised; shocked even, if she did that. Nor do I expect she'll be seeing the inside of a prison anytime soon. I bet we'll be seeing an appeal filed about halfway through May, urging review before sentence is passed. Figure the appeal process will take about a year, and is fifty-fifty as to success.
If everything goes against her, I expect she'll hold her head up high, make a rather loud and bombastic speech, and go serve her time.
Maybe she'll surprise me, and go running off; it just seems so against the grain. Even with a felony conviction, she has a possibility of eventually redeeming her reputation, and for someone who lucked out and called it clawing her way to the top; well, the opportunity to prove her critics wrong and do it again certainly seems well within her mindset.
Though I also expect that during the appeals process, she'll be working extra hard to get Kerry elected President so that she can wrangle a pardon from him, should things go wrong.

Heads on a platter?
Martha Stewart, and then Howard Stern?
Seems the new trend is for all "victims" to be labled in the John The Baptist mode.

Personal accountability in liberal New York? I didn't think it was possible. I mean in the Age Of Clinton, O.J got away with two murders. Here in the Age Of Bush, Martha Stewart goes to prison! The jury sent a message that will be heard throughout the country: being famous isn't a license to be above the law.

Just like the criminals at Enron, WorldComm, TYCO, Global Crossings, etc. were TAKEN DOWN by the Bush administration after they all profited from connections to the Clinton's and Dems in the 1990's.

Moments after she marched down the courthouse stairs with the hint of a stunned smile creeping across her face, Stewart's Web site posted a message in which she defiantly announced that "I have done nothing wrong." But it was quickly altered to say, "I am obviously distressed by the jury's verdict but I continue to take comfort in knowing that I have the confidence and enduring support of my family and friends." Dumb moving putting up the first statement, smart move taking it off "quickly".
During sentencing the court relies heavily on whether the defendant seems remorseful. After all, the matter of guilt is no longer an issue -- it has been settled by the jury. Now is the time for the defendant to give up the pretext of "wasn't me, I didn't do it" (or at least go along with the program even if they were wrongly convicted). Declaring "I have done nothing wrong" *after* your guilty verdict is a gold-engraved invitation to the court to increase your sentencing in order to give you more time to come to the realization that what you did *was* wrong, and that's why you're in jail and/or fined into the poorhouse.

Excellent point.
Excellent.
It shows how "out of touch" she is and how superior she feels.

Like Leona Helmsley. I only hope Stewart shows humility and repetence, two traits of character that seems to be missing from modern liberals, who are full of it.

No U.S. citizen should be punished for conspiracy, purgery, or obstruction of justice. To do so violates the right of equal protection under the law and establishes the injustice that the President of the United States is not subject to the same laws that govern other citizens.

That's another good point. If Martha was a Republican and not a Hillary loving lesbo every liberal news outlet would be hammering her even harder. The "Evil Republican Cheats On Minor Stock Trade" type headlines would be fodder for years.
She'd be compared to Ken Lay. But since she's a flaming liberal, she's a "victim".

Convicted Felon and Clinton Donor/Support Martha Stewart's goose isn't just cooked... LOL! I believe now that she is convicted, she MUST step down from all her companies. (Good bye to K-Mart's scratchy sheets!) Maybe some freeper can cite the laws?

She was convicted of arrogance. Didn't know that was a crime. As much as we claim to hate the French, we do a good job of imitating them around here.

This stupid witch should have asked her broker how much she would lose when Imclone took a big hit. A $ 50,000 loss is easy to deal with when you have a popular television show and your company is worth $ 100 million. But, she was greedy and arrogant and very stupid. It cost her over $ 50 million.
If I were the judge I would throw the book at her. Let her rot in federal prison for the next five years. She can teach her fellow inmates how to cook.
