Free Republic Network ^ | 3-5-04 | Bob J

Posted on 03/05/2004 6:38:11 PM PST by Bob J

As most are aware, the Free Republic Network runs a feature called "Columnists' Corner" on it's website. Due to our affiliation with Townhall, our articles are picked up and printed on their website.

All FReeper writers and columnists are encouraged to submit articles for potential publishing an "The Corner". We can't guarantee that all submissions will get posted, but will do our best to make sure the best get some exposure.

Please forward submissions to columnists@freeper.org!

OK Hoss, how many words and what subjects? (Any is satisfactory for subjects, but there should be a word limit. Especially if it is to be reprinted in Town Hall. 500 words? 750? 1000?)

...but one word was never a whole sentence.

My favorite checkmate is when my opponent contradicts himself. My next favorite is when he shows himself up as an individual who clearly doesn't know a thing about what he speaks.

In this discussion you have furnished me, perhaps unwittingly, the particular satisfaction of being able to revel in both at your expense, and simultaneously at that! The special treat for me this time, however, is that along with the TKO you have become so disoriented at this point in the discourse, that all that is left for you to do is to descend into incoherent babbling as you are doing now.

Your standing in the discussion has continued to shrink in the eyes of many on this thread since your first posting to it.

As an intellectual plaything, you have been entirely too easy for me. At some point when the swelling around both of your mentally vacant and blackened eyes subsides and you cease drooling out of what is left of that fattened and bloodied intellectual lip of yours, perhaps then I'll be more inclined to graciously accept your surrender. You’ll really have to do a more convincing job of cleaning up that intellectual crap you’ve stepped into first, however.

I’m done playing with you. I’ve had my fun. Those in this thread see you for what you are.

And guess what. YOU are still by every demonstration illiterate!

If you want to attract writers, stop posting illiterate crap like this.

Here is a thread for you. It's right up your alley...

What part of this title look's stupid?

Translation: I win because I say so! Oh, and I'm also claiming it was really easy and I had a good time doing it and lots of people reading the thread admire me for it. And then I descend into some sort of overblown Fight Club imagery that provides a little too much information about my inner life.

Journalism requires interview skills, finding news, research. The 'writing' end of it is the easy part. I think a lot of people forget that. Writing demands imagination, creativity, clarity in thought, and a talent for bringing three dimensional scenarios alive on a page.

I disagree. I think a lot of current mainstream journalism demonstrates great imagination and creativity. For instance, indecision becomes appreciation for life's subtle nuances, political expediency becomes statesmanship, and four months of service in Vietnam thirty years ago imparts deep wisdom on issues from the current war on terror to national health care. Oh, yes, and the fact that the 9/11 families who oppose President Bush's advertisements are funded in part by John Kerry's wife has no relevance to their viewpoints. If that journalism does not display great imagination, then what does? P.S.: I also noted, from an article yesterday, that John Kerry "inhabits nuances," another example of journalistic creativity. Just imagine trying to inhabit a nuance: is it crowded? are utilities included?

Yes, it's a damned good thing I'm not using my profile to solicit the services of writers, isn't it? Because bad grammar in that context would be, like, really unacceptable.
