The Rev. Kevin Bean is rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Marblehead.

It only seems fitting that this gas would come from a moron named "Bean."

Luke and the other gospel writers tend to downplay the responsibility which the Roman authorities exercised in condemning Jesus to death.That.....or MAYBE.....God inspired them to write what they wrote.......

This article wouldn't be quite so offensive if it weren't written by someone who claims to be a Christian of some kind.

Do you know why Episcopalians don't play chess anymore?

"We now know the centuries-long descent into the night of Auschwitz which the warped twisting and unthinking literalism of these verses of the gospels were used to justify."
no, i didn't know that. i believe the corporal's minions worshipped things decidedly non-christian.

Give me a few moments with this idiot that calls himself a "Reverend".
"More than 1900 years after the gospels were written, if inflammatory gospel passages are read aloud in church - or used as the basis of a gruesome film - without acknowledging their proper context and the evil done by their misappropriation, we would once again be complicit with the evil which wrought the Holocaust and other destructive and divisive rifts within the world today."
Horsefeathers. I am weary of these limp-wristed fools apologizing for the Word of God and trying to explain it away.
I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, it is the Power of God unto Salvation, to All who will believe. This supposed man of "god" ( I believe in God ) is ashamed of the Gospel. I am ashamed of him.
Blessings, Bobo

Luke's use of transparent inaccuracy shows him indirectly pointing the finger at Rome. Unfortunately, later readers of the gospels - including Mel Gibson - would not catch the context nor these subtleties, and that's where it all gets dangerous. It has been demonstrated completely that Luke is the most accurate historian of that era...and it has been confirmed over and over again.

I bet he would be just shocked too to hear me say that the first inter-faith worship service involved Elijah and 400 priests of Baal, and only one man was left alive afterwards.
Oh, but I guess they never read the Old Testament.

Well, all subtlety is lost on me also when it comes to scripture. I regard that as a good thing.
You can have all the theories you want. I have the written, eyewitness account. It's good enough for me.
To: MegaSilver
Luke wrote his gospel account around 85 CE - some 55 years after the death of Jesus and 15 years after the destruction of the Jewish Temple and much of the rest of Jerusalem by the Roman army, and after the subsequent dispersal or diaspora of many Jews and Jewish-Christians to more distant lands. This tells me all I need to know about the good reverend.
To: MegaSilver
So how come the author deosn't give any reason why the Romans wanted Christ dead
Since he was preaching love etc etc nad none of his speeches even mentions anything against Rome or its authority what had they to fear from him
They had Barabas a rebel in prison so there were rebels at the time and you would think they would have welcomed a Jesus type who wasn't preaching revolt
It only makes sense if they were trying to placate the Jewish power structure who were threatened
At Least that is the way I perceive it and I am an agnostic so what do I know

Luke wrote his gospel account around 85 CE A so-called clergyman can't even use the term AD (Year of the Lord). It tempts one to use the Lord's name in vain. I'd expect this from a PBS documentary, not a "rector".
