Jeez, the Midwest was already "The Rust Belt" decades ago.

(I hope that my memory is correct...and that I'm not having a Bill Clinton
"I remember all those black churches being burned" moment)

Jackson michigan lost it's decent jobs long before Bush came into office. Companies like Yard man, Good year and clark Equipment have been long gone for years.

Total U.S. employment did peak in March 2001, but it peaked nine months earlier (June 2000) — on Clinton's watch — in the industrial Midwest.

The author makes unneeded concessions. It would take a real hard nosed person to blame decline in employment on a President which started during the second month of their term. I suspect that it takes 6 months for any administration change to take effect.

You know that and I know that but my liberal family still calls it the "Bush Recession."

I actually had an tiff with my sister about Feb of 2001 where she kept screaming about the Bush Recession. I asked her why she lost her job in June of 2000.

Unemployment is down to 5.6% which is below the 5.8% average of the 1990s.

Oh well, that's not the way the game is played, never has been, never will be.

That's wierd, the free traders were telling us that manufacturing jobs were growing. Now they are going to tell us the opposite just to pass the buck to Clinton.
