The French Railways Company, SNCF, is employing about ten thousand staff to search all railway lines for bombs. This follows the discovery of a device near the city of Limoges a week and a half ago. In a letter, an unidentified terrorist organisation had alerted the French government to the presence of the bomb. They warned of nine others planted at sites along the railway network.
It has only just become known that the French government has been receiving threatening letters for nearly three months from the organisation, which calls itself the AZF. Last Monday, an attempt to pay the group off failed due to confusion about the location where the money was to be exchanged. AZF was the name of a chemicals factory in Toulouse which blew up in September 2001 killing 30 people.
The french tried to surrender to the terrorists, we aren't sure if it was incompetence on the part of the french, the terrorists or both that delayed the formal surrender. We know it was not the terms of the surrender...the french always surrender unconditionally...to anyone.
That was cold and cruel to accuse the French of cowardice and incompetence. They are a proud country with a rich history and brave acts ...."... an attempt to pay the group off failed due to confusion about the location where the money was to be exchanged. "... on second thought, nevermind.
Not too many since 1917 when half the French army mutinied.
