MIAMI, March 3 (UPI) -- The 2004 presidential campaign began Wednesday with a visit to Orlando, Fla., by John Kerry, who outlined his homeland security plans.
The announcement by Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards that he is dropping out of the race rendered next Tuesday's Florida primary moot, but now it's time for the real action as Kerry, the Democrats' presumptive nominee, now mounts the campaign to unseat President Bush.
Kerry outlined his plans for homeland security, promising to pay more money for "first-responders" to terrorism such as police and firefighters.
He told an overflow crowd he is calling for tighter port security for airlines and shipping interests.
Kerry also collected an endorsement from the International Union of Police officers.
The appearance and others in the state were originally scheduled with next week's primary in mind.

Wow, more money to 'first responders' and tighter port security for airlines and shipping interests.
I feel safer already. Where do I cast my vote?

International Union of Police? Isn't that either Heinrich Himmler's Interpol or Lenin's KGB? And. . . Kerry talking about homeland security is like Al Sharpton talking about his NRA membership, right? And. . . where is this money for first responders coming ???? TAXES, TAXES, and more TAXES!

Yeah, nice to kow the first responders (who survive) will be well paid when they treat the casualties. More clowns at the airport to harrass 80 year old Polish grandma's while not "profiling", and union "port" inspectors to rip off shipping containers. Yup I feel mighty safe now.

Oh, I've got it! How about "I'll put a million police officers on the streets"? Has that one been done yet?

A few weeks ago, Kerry said the terrorist threat was "exaggerated." Now he's saying Bush isn't doing enough to fight this exaggerated threat. Another flip-flop.

You will need more money for first responders if you turn our security over to the UN.

I can't wait to see the long list of financial increases to every program and walk of life that Kerry will promise and then turn around and blast Bush for the deficit. Got my front row seat.

Kerry... promis[ed] to pay more money for "first-responders" to terrorism such as police and firefighters. 1. More money for "cities", i.e. to Democratic political machines. Some might trickle to a policeman or two.
2. Great, we will have more police and firefighters to respond to the devastating attacks our enemies will be inflicting on us.

Let's see, he'll spend more $$ on first responders to clean up the mess created by the fact that we couldn't find and stop the terrorists because he voted to cut the intelligence budget.
What kind of logic did they teach @ Boston College Law School?
