Who Will Be The Choices For VP?
me

Now that it seems certain that we know who the Democrats are putting up for President, it seems only right that we should next question who will be the VP running mates---not only for the Democrats but also for the Republicans.
I'd like to know what everybody else is thinking out there.
As for me, I've got a few possibilities. For Kerry, I'd say he'll pick either Hillary, John Edwards, or Bob Graham. If he picks Hillary or any female or minority, Bush will probably go with Condoleeza Rice. If not Bush will either go with Bill Frist or stay with Cheney.
What do you think?

I think he'll go with Bill Nelson of FL.

I think you're completely nuts. Neither Edwards nor Graham buys Kerry anything (Graham would be the better of the two in an attempt to make Florida competitive again), and Kerry would have to be clinically insane to choose Hillary Clinton (not to mention suicidal). Clinton doesn't want the #2 spot anyway, and would rather see Kerry lose so she can run in 2008.
Kerry will need to choose someone who can help deliver a critical region who at the same time is less charismatic (if that is even possible). My money is on Gephardt because Kerry needs to at least be competitive in the Midwest in order to keep from running a defensive campaign in the Democrat "safe" states. And Gephardt may be the only major Democrat out there more boring than Kerry, but it is a toss-up. Gephardt is also well-liked by the unions.
Bush will stay with Cheney unless Cheney does not wish to run. Period. If Cheney chooses to step down, look for a Governor or Senator from a battleground state to take his place.

There is zero chance, outside of a catostrophic illness, that Cheney will not be Bush's running mate.
As for Kerry, I think he'll try to get the abortion mills to bite their tongue and accept Evan Bayh on the ticket.
To: MarcoPolo
Kerry might go for Kansas' gov - a female moderate Rat.
Bush will stick with Cheney. Regardless of my comments about Bush, he's loyal I'll give him that.

I disagree on Bayh. I don't think Bayh can deliver Indiana to the democrats so he won't be there. Same thing with Edwards. People call me crazy (which might be true), but I have a hunch he is going to go with a woman (not Hillary).
Mary Landrieu is my wildcard pick. She is not an extreme leftist, but liberal enough to appease the base, she is a southerner, and from a state that could very well be in play this year. She is photogenic, and will basically do whatever Kerry tells her to do.
I believe for some strange reason that Kerry will either go with her, or go with Graham of Florida. He is rightly or wrongly expecting a replay of 2000 and he wants somebody who can deliver a state.
Cheney is on the ticket for the GOP barring any new heart problems. That is a done deal.

If for some reason Cheny doesn't run as VP, I would love to see Bush pick Zell Miller
It would never happen, but I would still love to see it

Cheney needs to be dropped in a heartbeat, he adds absolutely no appeal to the ticket, he is a heart-attack on wheels, come to think of it,,,didn't the Bush the father also have a questionable pick for his VP ? Guess it runs in the family...LOL
To: William McKinley
I can't see Bayh wasting political capitol on Kerry. When Bayh runs it will be for it all.
Heck the way things are in Indiana Bayh is already the defacto senior senator.

Hillry is getting OLD. This may well be her last chance to regain her old job.
"IF" the lying liberals believe there is a chance they can win this election I believe Hillry will be on that ticket by whatever means necessary.
JFKerry did not look WELL last night, he looked gaunt, weak, and frail.... We really need a look see at his military and health records.

If I were Kerry, I'd pick Zell Miller. Its the smart move. But it would turn off the hate Bush base he needs to have a fighting chance in the fall.

I thought that two months ago and still think that today. The Dems feel they can take Florida and thus, Bill Nelson is a very real possibility.
That said, VP candidates have little to no effect on how voters choose their President.

Gabby Gephardt is intensely disliked in outstate Missouri. In fact, his only home for the past few years has been his deceased mother's apartment. He has a real home in the Carolinas. He did VERY poorly in Iowa. Unions were pulling the pin on him just before the primary there, and jumped ship right after he withdrew-as politely as possible. He gave his entire career to the unions. They dumped on him.
He is shrill. Offensive. Republicans in Missouri HATE him! He would deliver nothing to the Dims. They already have the unions. Don Federer almost beat him in Gephardt's home District-as Democrat as they are.
I understand Graham of FL had the blood-flow to his brain interrupted during his heart surgery. Not being sarcastic, simply what I read. He seemed "incoherent" several times during primary, and dropped out. His "memory" is still popular/well-known in FL, but I do not think he will be on ticket.
My call? Bayh of IN. Women like him, and they are approx. 53% of electorate. He and Kerry will make a "hunk-ticket." Women loved Clinton-and do to this day. Bayh is sound-financially.
The south is lost, Edwards, as you say, ads nothing to the ticket. Hell, I doubt if he could deliver his home state to Dems...

Gephardt could balance the ticket. Anti-nafta to get the union people on board. He may not be able to deliver Missouri though.
Still sticking to my Landrieu wild card bid though. I am not just saying that cause I am moving to Louisiana in 3 weeks either ;)
