A Democratic-leaning online group will run television commercials in 17 presidential battleground states starting Thursday to counter President Bush's multimillion-dollar advertising blitz that will begin the same day.
The MoveOn.org Voter Fund has been airing commercials assailing Bush for months in several swing states, but this $1.9 million, five-day effort will be its most far-reaching. The ads will ensure that there is a Democratic presence on the TV airwaves in key states as Bush begins to make his case for re-election.

Uhhh... isn't this a direct violation of the recent FEC ruling?
If you would like to file a complaint with the FEC regarding MoveOn's blatantly illegal activities, you may:
Call the FEC at (800) 424-9530 to phone in a complaint.
Here is the formal procedure for filing a complaint:
http://www.fec.gov/pages/brochures/complain.htm#anchor460355
Any person may file a complaint if he or she believes a violation of the Federal Election Campaign Laws or Commission regulations has occurred or is about to occur. The complaint must be made in writing, and sent to the Office of General Counsel, Federal Election Commission, 999 E Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20463. The original must be submitted along with three copies, if possible. Facsimile transmissions are not acceptable.
A complaint must comply with certain requirements. It must:
- Provide the full name and address of the person filing the complaint (called the complainant); and
- Be signed, sworn to and notarized. This means that the notary public's certificate must say "...signed and sworn to before me..."
Furthermore, in order for a complaint to be considered complete and proper, it should:
- Clearly recite the facts that show specific violations under the Commission's jurisdiction (citations to the law and regulations are not necessary);
- Clearly identify each person, committee or group that is alleged to have committed a violation (called the respondent);
- Include any documentation supporting the allegations, if available; and
- Differentiate between statements based on the complainant's (the person who files the complaint) personal knowledge and those based on information and belief. Statements not based on personal knowledge should identify the source of the information.

You need to explain why its illegal.
To: jmstein7
On the off chance that it is not illegal, then perhaps FR should sponsor some ads.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1084419/posts "The Federal Election Commission last week issued an advisory opinion that said any ads which promote, support or attack a specific candidate must be paid for with hard money. The move could threaten the ability of political interest groups known as 527s to use soft money to campaign against President Bush.
The opinion is not a law, but the FEC is expected to issue a formal rule-making on the issue by mid-May.
The opinion is the first-step in determining how 527s--co-called because of their tax standing with the IRS--can raise and spend money under McCain-Feingold. Laws regulating soft money would limit contributions to such groups from individuals and political action committees to $5,000 per year. "

Edwards has capitulated to Kerry. Bush called Kerry and said, "Dude, game's on!"
Ferget MoveOn. Let's roll.

Freepers should start mass marketing bumper stickers that simply read:
Elect Kerry in 2004
(and the terrorists will have won)

"isn't this a direct violation of the recent FEC ruling? "
===
That was my first thought.
Here is what RNC chairman, Ed Gillespie said (read especially the last paragraph)
"A month ago I noted that Democrats seemed intent on running one of the dirtiest campaigns in modern presidential politics, and I cited a litany of early examples of disturbing tactics."
"It appears we can now add to that list a willingness to blatantly violate the new campaign finance laws."
"According to the Associated Press: 'The MoveOn.org Voter Fund has been airing commercials assailing Bush for months in several swing states, but its $1.9 million effort will be its most far- reaching. The ads will ensure that there is a Democratic presence on the TV airwaves in key states as Bush begins to make his case for re-election.'" (Associated Press, "MoveOn.org to Counter Bush's Ad Blitz" by Liz Sidoti, March 2, 2004)
"Also according to the Associated Press, MoveOn.org's founder, Wes Boyd says: 'We're worried about being swamped with ads after Super Tuesday so we're going to do our best.'" (Associated Press, "MoveOn.org to Counter Bush's Ad Blitz" by Liz Sidoti, March 2, 2004)
"Who does Mr. Boyd mean exactly by 'we?'"
"Coordinating ad strategy with a presidential campaign and using non-federal dollars to pay for ads to defeat a candidate for federal office is a defiant, knowing and willful violation of the law. Does John Kerry believe the law he voted for is meant to be broken?"

In class today, the prof blasted the notion that David Horowitz was being censored when student papers refused to run his ad, saying that the First Amendment doesn't apply to commercial speech. She also said that in the we should also consider where Horowitz was getting the funding to back the anti-reparations ad?
Why do I bring this up? Well, this same prof has sent through the grad student listserv a message condemning CBS for its "censorship" and "chilling effect on free speech" in not running MoveOn's anti-Bush ad during the Super Bowl-a message which never bothered to mention the obscene amount of money MorOn has received from Soros and others. I would have asked her to explain this inconsitency in class, but she's head of the department and she has a VERY short fuse, so...

Who's afraid of MoveOn? Get a grip. They're a bunch of commies working out of Berkeley, CA. Totally out of touch with reality with a track record of zero wins, ten losses.
Remember, they were Deanbots at the start of the dem primaries. They are trying to morph into an arm of the DNC, sucking down ca$h to no good effect. It's 1999 all over again. The internet political bubble is about to burst, as far as the DNC is concerned. They have a track record of NOT being able to play political hardball. They make mistakes common to political amatuers.
Better for us if the dems plunk down lots of hard cash in their account. Wes, Amy, Zack, Silas, Zeke and the rest of the MoveOn.Org Team are a dem money pit that will prove fruitless.

Hey, they are my next door neighbors. I live just a stone's throw from the whole lot. Had 'em over for dinner just the other night.
Wes and Amy were bummed that Soros was pissed about the Bush = Hitler thing. Could mean a ding to the bottom line. Zeke and Silas had a big argument about whether the Dean campaign should have gone EEEARRRGGHH!! sooner, rather than later.
Then we passed around the bong and played some Pink Floyd on zither and harmonica...
