Leftist inspired, intentional hysteria. Of course an AK-47 was not used in these attacks. But the media don't care about the thruth when it has an agenda to champion. I predicted this a long time ago, that when it gets close to the vote on the AWB the media will start trotting out stories of shootings involving "real" assault weapons (a true AK-47, if it has selective fire capabilities -- i.e., can fire on either semi or full automatic). The media are carrying the water for its fellow travelers in the Democractic party.
To: OXENinFLA
The news articles of AK-47 attacks may be pure propaganda and have no basis in fact.
-No suspects are caught.
-No weapons recovered.
-Both shootings (Detroit and Chicago) involve the AK, an exotic looking weapon used by Bin Ladin and the former Evil Empire.
-In the Detroit shooing, in particular, there were no whitenesses to the shooing. How on earth do they know it was an AK? From casings? A SKS will shoot 7.62x39, as will a number of Ruger rifles and even some bolt action guns.
-The missing family in Louisiana were shoot with a .22, but the media is focusing on the suspects AR-15 ASSAULT WEAPON. It seems that the media is uber-focused on the AWs at this time and are fishing for fodder to help disarm us.

For his part, President Bush says he favors the assault weapons ban, and in the 2000 presidential campaign, he supported closing the gun-show loophole. Yet he currently supports passage of the Senate bill without these amendments

You are kidding right? I didn't email Senator Allen for nothing. I sincerely hope my email and many others helped him to see the light.

If the AWB passes and is signed by Bush he might as well pack his bags.

Bush may not want to win a 2nd election... ever consider that?
The entire REPUBLICAN PARTY, from Dog Catcher to President will need to feel the wrath in the next election.
Unless they want to wander in the political wilderness for the next 30 years AGAIN, there had better be no AW ban come this November!
To: CasearianDaoist
Yes. Most likely when it goes to committee to work out the final bill, the House will strip the AW ban from it.
