Last Thursday a report a Box Office Mojo stated that;

"Movie brass predict that attendence will drop of over the weekend leaving Passion with receipts of approximately $35 million."

Me thinks that Box Office Mojo needs to find more reliable scources....I mean they were only off by $90 million....

Once considered a niche film that would appeal mainly to conservative Christians...

Maybe there are more "Conservative Christians" than they thought?

I saw it Saturday with my husband. It was a terrific and powerful and very high-quality movie, and the ending was just beautiful. The single tear from heaven, the earthquake, the powerful flashbacks, the simply and perfectly done resurrection scene. . . I'm hoping to take my fairly atheist mother to see it again next week. . .

My church bought out 7 screens on the first day. I know a lot of my friends from church plan on seeing it at least twice, once with a Christian and then again with someone who isn't. . .

The number kept getting bigger. Monday last week they were predicting 25 to 30 million. Tuesday 40 to 50 million. Wednesday 75 to 80 million. Saw it on Saturday. 2:20 matinee not an empty seat. This will be the highest grossing film ever.

Not much of a movie person but I'm planning on seeing it Friday. How accurate is it?

If you liked the book, you'll like the movie. If you never read the book, I won't spoil the ending or you;)

My pastor did exactly that. Our church bought out 7 showings and he gave a sermon before each one (and also showed slides of crucifixion art instead of ads beforehand).

just a change of scenery.

Going to the movie is just a change, which is not negative.

Sometimes on Wednesday we do not have a normal service. We go out and knock on doors instead.

Blessings, bobo

YES! We saw this incredible film on Sunday. I was really determined to contribute to the weekend $$ total for 'Passion'- if for nothing else - to send a message stick it to the members of the Hollywood liberal elite.

My husband and I thought it was an amazing film, and plan to see it again soon with my 80-year-old mother... who hasn't been out to a movie in several years.

Not bad for a film which will "appeal only to the gay Christian sadomasichist niche market," I'd say!

Wow, this is 1,000,000 ahead of LOTR:Return of the King. I guess the question is, what kind of staying power does it have?

So far, it's far ahead of the other movies in terms of "legs." It opened lower, but is coming on stronger than any of the rest, contrary to the predictions of the naysayers.

What's happening is that the people who were scared off by the critics are now being convinced by the people who have seen the movie to go and see it.

Has anyone here seen it more than once? I'm just curious as to how you might have come away from the movie - i.e., was the second viewing equally moving as the first? Was it perhaps more moving, since the mind could transcend the shock from the scourging of Christ - and now reflect more purely on his suffering, and of Mary's suffering.

I've got tickets for tonight. My teenage son is going with me. I confess I'm nervous about seeing it with all the blood. I know I'll cry but is the violence too much or did Mel do what he said and "give the audience escapes" from the ongoing violence?

I would bet that this will be at least a $300 million box office film in the US.

Dr. Ted Baer (sp?) of Crosswalk has predicted a $500 million US gross. More than enough for Mel to finance several more pictures. 8-)

The interesting question to me is whether it passes Titanic at $600 million US.
