Greenpeace founder now promotes nuclear energy and genetically modified foods

Three decades ago, Patrick Moore helped found Greenpeace. Today he promotes nuclear energy and genetically modified foods - and swears he's still fighting to save the planet.

Patrick Moore has been called a sellout, traitor, parasite, and prostitute - and that's by critics exercising self-restraint. It's not hard to see why they're angry. Moore helped found Greenpeace and devoted 15 years to waging the organization's flamboyant brand of environmental warfare. He campaigned against nuclear testing, whaling, seal hunting, pesticides, supertankers, uranium mining, and toxic waste dumping. As the nonprofit's scientific spokesperson, he was widely quoted and frequently photographed, often while being taken into custody.

The French have done 3 good things since 1770. They supported The American Revolution. They built the Statue of Liberty. They smashed Greenpeace's boat.

I think this guy realized that groups with legitimate environmental concerns are getting hijacked by anti-capitalist leftist political ideology and got out. It's too late for Greenpeace, stick a fork in it. Are there any decent environmental groups around anymore?

Well, it's nice that he's come around to the rational concept of environmentalism, based on rationale rather than moral pomposity. To late to do any damn good, but it's still nice.

I think the common name for "rational concept of environmentalism" is probably conservationism.

Don't know of any good conservative conservationist (boy is that a mouhtful) groups though.

Is that the one that was in New Zealand that the French are suspected of bombing and sinking? (killing a man in the process).

I recall a man and a woman were arrested in New Zealand and were thought to be French military , or something like that.

It is coming back to me now, it had to do with the French testing a nuclear bomb on an island and Greenpeace was trying to stop it.

I can`t recall the name of the boat though. This is going to bug me all day.... What was the name of the freaking boat?

Moore's turnabout was the biggest change of heart since Harold "Kim" Philby left Her Majesty's secret service for the Soviet Union...

We're never going to know the full truth about cold-war spies. What we do know is that the U.S. allowed the Soviets to "steal" sofware that contained a trojan horse, and which later blew up their newly constructed gas pipeline. Why did the Soviets have such confidence in their source?

I have long believed that a true environmentalist would be for safe exploitation of nuclear genreated electricity so when I read the article I nodded my head. None of the environmental alternajtive forms of transportation will work without abundant electrical energy and nuclear is the cleanest way to produce it. Good for this scientist who has pulled his head out of that dark place most junk scientists have theirs.

I don't know of any strong science environmental movements, the socialist green party coops them quickly, look what they did to Lomborg's book. I suspect organizations like ducks unlimited will fit the bill.
