LOS ANGELES (AP) Mel Gibson's gamble on ''The Passion of the Christ'' paid off enormously, riding a storm of religious debate to a $117.5 million haul in its first five days, according to studio estimates Sunday.
''The Passion,'' which debuted on Ash Wednesday, rocketed to the No. 1 box-office slot for the weekend with $76.2 million from Friday to Sunday.

He's probably welcome, but they'll charge him with hate crimes and lock him away from the public eye.

Why, it's practically scriptural...
"The stone which the builders rejected..."
And yes, this Roman Catholic Christian will be hitting the Box Office at least one more time, on Good Friday. As an earlier poster asserted, it just seems... appropriate.
This movie is bloodily violently magnificent. The sacrifice, the redemption, the love and devotion of Mary, Mary Magdalene, and The Disciple Jesus Loved, the treatment of Simon of Cyrene, Veronica, the tear from heaven...
And, last but not least, the resurrection.
Amazing movie.

"Wouldn't it be fantastic to see this in a few years? --
VATICAN II -- A Mel Gibson Film."
I don't think so. Mel Gibson is NOT a fan of Vatican II, and neither am I. Vatican II did untold damage to the Catholic Church, if you ask me.

I remember an Oscar Meyer from my childhood. Kids were supposed to like biting him.

And that from a country that seems to turn a blind eye to the ordeal that Israel is going through with the murderous Palis.
What an Irony....

I saw it with my wife yesterday, Sunday. I still don't know exactly what I feel about the film, because it affected me on different levels. As for the message of the film, one word, and one word above all others, keeps jumping out at me: Agony. The film so effectively showed the depth on Christ's agony on that fateful day. I wasn't repulsed by the violence, perhaps because I -- along with millions of others who have seen the film -- were familiar with the story and knew what to expect as far as the brutality of the scourging and the crucifixion itself. But the depth of the suffering, of the pain, of the AGONY, was so well presented, because I felt it (not the physical pain, but the anguish of knowing He suffered that terrible punishment for me). I have been thinking about the movie since I saw it yesterday, and I have been thinking about just who and what I am, and what brought me to this point, and where I should be going. The movie stirred in me a long overdue need for a much needed exercise in soul-searching. I cannot think of a better compliment for a movie, or any other form of art.

IMHO it is not the Christians there who are anti Jews, its the Muslims No need to qualify that with "IMHO." It's been very well documented that the anti-Semitic problems in the EU are coming from Muslims.
Remember the report the EU tried to censor a couple months back? It was because the report properly ID'd Muslims as the problem.

Former enemies are now friends. Like the song goes, "They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love." Except, for real. This is something bigger than all the Catholic and Protestant congregations of America combined. It is actually weirding me out. Great Awakening II, here we come, and not a moment too soon.

Zero.
There is a palpable anti-Christian agenda in Hollywood. I saw Dennis Miller interview Michael Douglas last night - he was ripping it and Mel a new one.
If Mel makes another, it will be met by the same, if not greater, resistance.
I wish it were not the case, but . . .

There were many poignat scenes. The one where I lost it, though, was when Jesus fell and his Mother Mary ran to him, and the look that passed between them, and Mary flashing back to when Jesus was a little boy, and he fell. Very powerful.
