I saw it with my wife yesterday, Sunday. I still don't know exactly what I feel about the film, because it affected me on different levels. As for the message of the film, one word, and one word above all others, keeps jumping out at me: Agony. The film so effectively showed the depth on Christ's agony on that fateful day. I wasn't repulsed by the violence, perhaps because I -- along with millions of others who have seen the film -- were familiar with the story and knew what to expect as far as the brutality of the scourging and the crucifixion itself. But the depth of the suffering, of the pain, of the AGONY, was so well presented, because I felt it (not the physical pain, but the anguish of knowing He suffered that terrible punishment for me). I have been thinking about the movie since I saw it yesterday, and I have been thinking about just who and what I am, and what brought me to this point, and where I should be going. The movie stirred in me a long overdue need for a much needed exercise in soul-searching. I cannot think of a better compliment for a movie, or any other form of art.

I had a few thoughts or words. One is "Re-awakening" as I think this film will encourage thousands to revisit the bible and to renew their relationships with the church. If sooo many have already forgotten about 9-11, imagine how many have forgotten about the suffering of Jesus.

I agree.

I did read here on FR, can't recall where, that the word "Passion" in the language of the day meant "Suffering". It is fitting that this particular suffering was done out of passion!
