NO MEL GIBSON AT OSCARS

Sun Feb 29 2004 13:01:38 ET

A major no-show at tonight's Academy Awards in Hollywood will be Mel Gibson.

The Executive Producer of the program, Joe Roth asked the filmmaker of PASSION OF THE CHRIST to present an award, knowing it would create unforgettable sparks.

The LA TIMES reports that Gibson let the offer expire because, Roth says, he was afraid of being booed.

His representatives said Gibson was too busy to attend because it was the movie's opening weekend.

I can understand why Gibson wouldn't want to be booed and why he's not going, but as a conservative who dislikes Hollywood, it would've been good for our cause to see them screw up by booing Gibson because it would've made people more aware of what Hollywood is all about.

I was about to post something similar.

That act would have changed my disgust with Hollywood to outrage.

I've not boycotted Hollywood but I am choosey as to who gets my dollar.

It was Meryl Streep and she shook her head like a two year old having a temper tantrum when she said it, underscoring her idiocy.

But she was the only one, and I think O'Reilly anticipates a full on assault of the president during tonight's festivities. We'll see.

I will be watching the AA at a friend's house who's recovering from complications of childhood diabetes. I know that he can take it (in fact he's much better) because we've been laughing on the phone about all this since Wednesday--and he's thrilled as I am to see the box office returns on "Passion...." Nothing like the ton of money this film is grossing to get the entertainment elite all riled up and GREEN with envy. Parenthetically speaking, I find it amazing that this dude, Roth, "knows" what Gibson "said," i.e., that he "was afraid of being booed." What a lie! What a weasel!! Meanwhile, I'm just tickled pink by Gibson's success. Hahhahhahhahhah!

My friend Father Tom Doyle said he had lunch with his father a few years back. Tom's dad has a PhD and was a very successful man.

Father Tom's dad said:

"Son, you know, I am an educated man. Our church congretation is filled with doctors, lawyers, engineers, businessmen, yes?"

Tom said--well, yeah, sure you are dad.

"Son, then why does the priest at Sunday mass talk to us like we were 8 year olds?"

As if "expiration" means anything. Hollywood always manages to get anybody with an axe to grind onstage (did the Am. Indian woman who made the protest speech for...was it Marlon Brando?...have an expiration date? DUH).

The deeper insult in this is that they think we'll buy their b.s.

Question is, will Mel be invited NEXT year???

Mel has broad shoulders and a long memory. I wouldn't worry about him. He's doing just fine, and six months from now, Hollywood will be lining up outside his door with movie scripts.

It's a question of perspective.
Does Hollywood really think *their* so-called "awards" mean anything to Gibson?
The man made a movie for -God-.
God will see to Mel's "awards", Himself.
As someone else said, I can't boycott what I never watch, anyway.
The Oscars are, and have always been, little more than a 4-hour orgy of frantic liberal mutual masturbation.

#102...Why do you say this?
Is it because of his strange behavior at the SAG awards?
I've always liked him, but found that rather strange.

I never considered that he didn't like Bush....I never read anything that would lead to that conclusion.

In fact, he's on some Civil Committee with the Bush administration....(not sure of details)

Remember when they gave the Academy Award to the scumbo who made the laudatory "documentary" about his heroes, the North Vietnamese who were killing American troops and how he thanked the communists as part of his acceptance speech? Thank God Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra were able to publiicly issue a disclaimer on stage, despite incurring the hatred of the "tolerant" Hollywood left in the audience. Things haven't changed much, have they?

Yeah, Mel is counting his money!!!

Let's see Mystic River has run 145 days and two of the stars are probably going to "win" tonight (at least that's the prediction I've heard). They've grossed about $82 million during their 145 day run.

Then we have The Passion of The Christ, it's run for almost 5 days, and the projected totals are.....drumroll please...$117 million.

Let them give those Oscars to whomever they please, I certainly won't be watching. America has voted with it's wallet!!!!

I can't speak for Mel, but I can attest to the fact that the Academy didn't even have the guts to ASK me to show up!!!!
