In 1978 I visited West Berlin. I took a daytime jaunt through Checkpoint Charley and around a bit on the East side. I will never forget that day. It is difficult for me to understand how someone who really remembers it could be nostalgic for it. But then the Germans are all masochists anyway so go figure.
