I have to admit that this movie makes me decidedly more optimistic concerning the culture wars.

Conservative media is just now achieving some measure of success that can be felt in the culture at large. For an opening salvo in film, Gibson has achieved something remarkable.

If this is an opening salvo, we know why liberals are in such a state concerning this film. They fear that no one will believe that tradition and traditional morality are to be dismissed as hopelessly trivial and against "progress."

Same here. I'm actually kind of stunned over the whole thing. The statement below from this thread kind of says it all:

Mark Joseph, an entertainment executive in Los Angeles and author of the upcoming book "The Passion of Mel Gibson: The Story Behind the Most Controversial Film in Hollywood History," said the film industry is in shock.

"This town is rocking," he said, "wondering what it all means. This is the film everyone deemed unreleasable."

Well, you're right. They thought Gibson's Christian admirers would fold like a cheap umbrella once they brought out the big guns and started firing off accusations of "Anti-Semitism" everywhere. Instead Christians stood up and said, "Hey, wait a minute, bud. What you're doing to Gibson is wrong.

I think they fear a new "Great Awakening"

Consider that this movie is "cutting edge".

Al the homophile, relative morality, christian ridiculing, a-moral tripe they made saying they were only reflecting society is now proven false.

I submit this is not a conservative "story" but a good "story". It just so happens that conservative in everyone has been hungering for a good story.

Here is the other show. Each of these people who is selling out theaters weeks in advance is not only a vote for the passion, it is a message that much of what they have on their shelves is destined for failure because the audience for "the passion" is not automatically going to go to the usual hollyweird tripe.

They have completly miss judged audiences and who is an available audience. They could have been making so much more money if they had not been so self absorbed.

(Out of curiosity, I wonder how many parents are taking their children to see this?)

You know, I've been very pessimistic over the direction in which our nation and its people have been heading, and I have been very doubtful that the tide toward our eventual downfall could be stemmed. I am not so sure, now. If this film has the impact I think it might; that it is a clarion call for truth and honor and respect and values; that it will energize those who have all but given up hope; then we may very well be on the brink of a new awakening. And I welcome it!
