Principal who said priest molested him is apparent suicide, Anchorage police say

The high school principal who accused a Catholic priest of molesting him as a young man has died in an apparent suicide, police and school officials said.

Service High School Principal Pat Podvin was found dead Wednesday at his home, Anchorage School District spokesman Roger Fiedler and police spokesman Ron McGee said.

The retired archbishop later apologized for his failure to help Podvin. A letter of apology was read in churches throughout the Archdiocese of Anchorage.

Odd. I heard a news report on the radio just a couple days ago about some priest accuser made famous by the news media killing himself also...what was that guys name?

Does seem strange. I thought only those under 18 could be molested. Perhaps he was raped? You don't have to be female to be raped. Males are raped in prison all the time.

Friday IS the day of reckoning. That is when the John Jay Institute will release its report. Some diocese have scrambled to release their numbers publicly , in a feeble attempt to fend off shock.

That it happened is one thing. That it has been either forgotten or covered up or something else is inexcusable," Podvin said last year. "I mean, these people are supposed to be our ethical, moral leaders."

Another victim, another suicide! Driven to this act by a sense of betrayal.

May God have mercy on this poor man't soul.

When a person uses the prestige of his office to pressure a person into acquiescence, such acquiescence is not free consent.

What's wrong? Don't you believe using children as human Guinea pigs? If this social experiment produces a generation of psychotics, we can always change the law in another 20 years or so. But, let's be open minded and give it a chance. /sarcasm

As to how it is possible for an eighteen year-old to be molested, it is important to remember that the priest was an authority figure. He is in a position to misuse his authority. Many of the molestors are reported to tell their victims, purporting to be authoritative, that homosexual acts is differ from heterosexual fornication in that, somehow, priests are not prohibited from engaging in them (an outright lie) and that those who indulge the perv priest are forgiven (certainly not by or through the priest/perv!!!!).

If the boss is taking illicit advantage of a power disparity by bullying his secetary or subordinate into his bed, the priest can emotionally bully many eghteen-year old boys confused as to their sexuality into his servce. Both border on rape. The homosexual abuse is additionally an inherently disordered act (every time between any same sex parties) as the priest well knows.
