THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST

What's scary is that someone could make a similar movie about the life of Mohammed, show it all over the Muslim world, and the masses there would react exactly the same way.

Something bad is about to happen on this thread. I just sense it.

THAT is even more absurd than the original post, if that were possible. The message of the NT goes far beyond the political scene that is its backdrop. Perhaps one has to have a Judaic worldview to appreciate what it meant in its own time.
As for Muhammad, he was a combination of gigolo, madman, pedophile, murderer, highwayman, and corrupt dictator. Red in tooth and claw, a monster. Any movie about his life would cause an outcry, all right, but one aimed at murdering the filmmakers for having depicted what that false prophet was really like.

You are an atheist. There is much that you don't understand. But you will some day.

And here I was thinking that nothing could be any more stupid than the original post.

You really should go and see it, then make your opinions known.
BTW, the movie is about YOU.
To: Sloth
You may have been here 6 years, but this post still qualifies as trolling.
It was just that when I got up this morning I could not turn on the TV, the radio, pick up a paper and there it was. I mean the COMING END OF THE WORLD over a movie. A blood vesicle must have popped.
Yes, I know what a troll is and confess. But this has gone WAY over the top as if it is of some big deal. ITS A MOVIE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!

Probably thrilled to no end about Matrix II. Now there was a movie worth ballyhoo.

Allen, I am trying to understand it from your perspective, so I won't get on you.
However, this film has a huge appeal to most Christians, of whom there are far more than the media would let you think. In addition, the left is so afraid of this movie that they have gone over the top attacking it, resulting in even more coverage.
I honestly believe that this film will have a tremendous impact on the social fabric of this country. Please have patience, because the media hoopla will go away in a day or two. Besides, isn't this better than yet another day of National Guard records?

Much ado about nothing? Them is fighting words! But we're feeling magnanimous today, so lemme splain:
We Americans take our circuses serious, dear sir! Be it Barnum & Bailey, Madonna or the latest action movie! Combine circus with religion and you've got yourself a winner! (Madonna, Virgin Records, Judas Priest metal, and so on.) But certain things cannot be said, certain illusions cannot be broken, it's the same in any culture, so we'll even argue, as someone does on another thread, that this is about "Jesus Christ"!

I notice you say that you think God has a place in the schools and in public life, so you are obviously not an intolerant atheist. Somewhere in your consciousness, it seems to me, you understand that it is our Judeo-Christian heritage that has provided the common values that blessed this country with freedom and prosperity unequaled in the history of the world.
Many of us not only see the value of Christianity to our culture, we believe in it with all our hearts. It gives our lives meaning, blesses our family relationships, and provides peace of mind even in the face of difficulty.
We understand that traditional Christianity stands in the way of the various leftists and sexual deviants who have been assaulting traditional values and tearing down our culture from the inside for the past few decades. We know that Hollywood has been on the cutting edge of that assault.
So we were excited when a Hollywood heavyweight had the temerity to stand up for traditional Christian beliefs and to put $30 million dollars of his own money into a Christian labor of love.
And we were appalled when the usual assortment of Lefties and deviants began openly assaulting, not just Mel Gibson, but our Scriptures, themselves.
This movie and the attacks on it could be an important cultural milestone. That's why all the hubbub. We can't articulate all the reasons why, but we feel it is important.

Darn ... I was hoping you were talking about Shakespeare.
To: SoothingDave
Well put Dave. I am sure that if he has such a problem expressing himself in English a movie in Aramaic and Latin would probably be much too hard for him to understand.
