Dear NRA ILA EVCs: At 10:30 am EST (2/25/04) by a 75-22 (3 Senators not voting) the US Senate invoked cloture on S. 1805, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (previously numbered S. 659).
By invoking cloture, the US Senate has avoided a potential filibuster by gun-ban advocates in an attempt to derail this critical legislation. Floor debate on this bill is currently underway, and is limited to no more than 30 hrs.
A roll call list detailing how your Senators voted on cloture is available at: http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=108&session=2&vote=00016
While passing cloture was an important first step, we must now ensure that every US Senator receives calls urging them to pass a CLEAN S. 1805 --- NO ANTI-GUN AMENDMENTS!
NOW IS THE TIME TO ACTIVATE YOUR LOCAL VOLUNTEER NETWORK -- CONTACT YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND FELLOW SECOND AMENDMENT SUPPORTERS AND HAVE THEM CALL, E-MAIL, OR FAX BOTH US SENATORS AND URGE THEM TO PASS S. 1805 WITH NO ANTI-GUN AMENDMENTS.
Contact information for your US Senators can be found at: http://www.capwiz.com/nra/dbq/officials/
or you can reach the US Senate switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senator's office.

Don't celebrate yet. We have to make sure it's without extending the AWB, or else this is a horrible defeat for us.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this would not have gone so easily had there not been some promises made to ammend it with Feinstien AWB renewal ultimately attached.

I give it an 80% chance we'll have a permanent AWB by October.

I'd love to bet you, but I won't take it.
I think the conference committee may save our ass, but the senate has an anti-majority. Only Zell Miller, and maybe Ben Nelson and Max Baucus(unreliable) may go right on that on the dem side. The rest will be a shock.
On the GOP, McCain, Warner, Luger, Fitzgerald, Chafee, DeWine, and Voinovich can not be counted on at all and will likely go bad.
Kerry and Edwards are absent, so we may be lucky, but I ain't counting on it./

The House has already hinted that a permanent AWB would not pass...or did I read it wrong
here on FR?

Look at the date though on that article. A lot of spines could've softened by now.

This legislation would ban lawsuits against the gun industry. It'll make it to the President's desk. The point is gun control is a loser issue for the Democrats.

The point is that it'll be a backdoor for AWB or worse.

Well, I've read the same thing as recently as a couple of weeks ago but unfortunately the FR search engine can't/won't find the article.

Please understand this, we DID NOT pass the bill yet, we only ensured there will not be a filibuster.
Debate time remaining is now LESS than thirty hours, the final vote can come at any time, NOW is THE time to make another call, get your neighbor to call, get your relatives to call, let your employee's call, etc.......
