Roll call - Who voted what on all the gun lawsuit ban votes, possibly AW ban later
thomas ^ | 2-25-04 | US SENATE

Posted on 02/25/2004 8:49:53 AM PST by Dan from Michigan

The first vote is to end the fillibuster. I'll post the other votes on this thread when they happen and when Thomas prints them. On this first vote, a YEA vote ends the fillibuster.

Everything should happen in the next 30 hours since cloture was invoked. However, right now - Drunken swimmer Ted Kennedy is going on a very long rant.

Oh, Bullsh!t. The NRA is blocking those amendments.

I'll pay attention to any other gun group when it's ever mentioned in a Senate or House debate. Until then, the yappy little dogs like this hit piece can go off in the corner and behave themselves.

By the way, thanks for posting that nonsense. I'll make damn sure that group and any group that's linked to them never sees a penny of my money or my support. I'll also be more than happy to tell my friends.

CCRKBA ALERT!!!

DON'T BELIEVE THE 'SELL-OUT' RUMORS!
Rumors are circulating across the Internet that the National Rifle Association has "sold out" on passage of S. 659, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, by agreeing to amendments that would extend the so-called "assault weapons" ban of 1994 and close the so-called "gun show loophole."

Those rumors are false.

However, by circulating such allegations, it is possible that key members of Congress will be misled into believing that "It's okay if we accept these anti-gun amendments, because that's what the NRA wants."

Gun owners should realize that the NRA, along with the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, and other gun rights organizations and our members and supporters, are solidly against any such extension. That has always been the case.

Firearms owners are urged to continue calling their Senators today as the Senate debates S.659, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. Tell your Senators to support passage of a clean bill, with no amendments.

To reach your Senators, call the Senate Switchboard at: 202-224-3121 and ask to speak to the Senators from your state.

It is also possible to get their direct telephone numbers by visiting the following website:

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm.

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation's premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.

If I'm not mistaken, the person in office gets to decide whether he gets a mass meeting or a primary election.

But I could be wrong.

I guarantee that this election will have a lot of folks pulling their hair out. It's not easy or pleasant to think that Kerry could be president, but in reality the fault lies with the Bush team.

We have been shouting from the rooftops about the spending, the First Amendment violations of CFR, the promised support for the continued violation of the 2nd, education spending, NEA spending, prescription drugs, illegal immigration, etc. . .

If the Bush team is that tone deaf, they continue at their own peril. He can end up as a one termer like his father. Why would he persist with his pandering to the left? I keep telling everyone that he is not stupid. If I'm right, he has some other motive or agenda and I'd like to know what it is.

This country is sorely divided and one possible end is another civil war. This next possible conflagration has the potential to make the first one like a day at the beach. Aggravating the situation are all of the pandering politicians trying to line their own pockets and become entrenched as they sell out our rights.

The American people are long suffering. We've proven it. Thomas Jefferson expected a revolution every 20 years. According to his timetable, we are long overdue for one. To pretend that the situation doesn't exist doesn't help.

If we let a so called conservative (of whatever self declared stripe) to get away with wholesale violations of the Constitution out of fear of getting a Democrat, we can never expect to get a Republican moderate or liberal to have any respect for us or the Constittion. Forget the Dems and libs. There is no hope for them at all. Since all pols crave power, perhaps, maybe, hopefully, we can teach the GOP a lesson and pull the back to the right.

There is no guarantee that it will work. We may end up with a Dem. The biggest difference is the speed with which we go into socialism, but even under Bush, we're heading there anyway.

From a lib to a moderate to a .....lib???
That's progress?
Allowing a lib back into the White House will just teach the politicians that people like you love gun control.

Did liberal clinton get CFR passed and signed into law?

Did liberal clinton increase education spending by $28 Million?

Did liberal clinton get a $400 Billion (or is it a $540 Billion) drug bill passed?

Did liberal clinton put an amnesty program into place?

Did liberal clinton . . . .

No, it was compassionate conservative Bush.

Did liberal clinton raise taxes?

Did liberal clinton push thru the AWB?

Yes! And guess what happened? It cost the dems control of the House in the next election and the Senate in the following one.

We took control from the Dems because we didn't want those things, but Bush is doing them anyway and people here want to give him a pass because the next guy will be worse. How?

The Congress (historically, anyway) has fought an opposition White House. But the stupid party does the same thing that we voted against and you think that I/we shouldn't be angry?

Are you crazy or just a Bush sycophant?

Why attack them?

Here are a few good reasons to do it:

1)You cannot make them happy, anything short of a theocracy isn't in thier plans. The likeleyhood of them "returning to the fold" are slim and none anyhow.

Note to admin moderator: This poster is attacking others, driving away voters from the GOP, and when asked why, comes up with the above quoted gem, where he claims the ability to divine so incredibly much about others. Strange that the RNC does not share his amazing ESP abilities, or they'd be insulting their voters too, instead of (rightly) working to woo them back to the fold.

He then raves on for a bit, before attacking me too, with this below-the-belt kick:

3)"Disenfranchised" is a liberal codeword, and anyone using it sets themselves up for scrutiny.

Note to Gringo1: With "friends" like you, we don't need enemies. Go back to wherever you came from, and get *them* to alienate *their* voters. Leave the GOP alone.

Probably the stupidest thing I see here on this board by some (and any board) is the SNEERING. If you want the fencesitters to vote your way, you have to make a case to CONVINCE them, not browbeat them. If you browbeat them, there is NO CHANCE IN HELL you'll convince them. In fact, you'll push others into their camp just for an "Up yours" effect.

No one is entitled to a vote. Votes must be earned(not accounting for fraud).

For those backing Bush here(my backing determines on what happens on these gun bills), instead of sneering(not all of you do), try to EARN their votes. If you browbeat, they may even back Kerry.

"Edwards & Kerry are busy campaigning. That's such a wonderful thing. I hope that they boss miss this issue entirely, and that whichever one is nominated misses the straight up-or-down AWB vote (please, let there be one) that should take place in the summer. This offers us some hope."

It will be funny to hear Kerry criticize Bush about this issue, when Kerry didn't even bother to show up for the vote...

"I'll pay attention to any other gun group when it's ever mentioned in a Senate or House debate."

So you don't pay any attention to GOA, CCRKBA, etc., just because they are not named in Congress? Just because you don't hear about them in Congress, does not mean that they are worthless. Get a grip.

"Because they don't do squat nada nothing but snipe at the NRA."

Like I said before, I have not had any experience with them. I did not get that impression from their site. Like the NRA has never taken shots at other gun groups?

Read the article and count the votes.
The dems should never be in power again and putting them there is stupid.

I'm only interested in what I'm doing ~ I have no control over their actions.

I take it you're not a member, or at least not one eligible to vote in their elections?

"Oh, Bullsh!t. The NRA is blocking those amendments."

Oh, so you know what is going on behind closed doors. How is that, do you work for one of the Senators? All you can do is take their word. Of course they can deny that they are doing it, even if they were. Just because they deny it does not make it so. I am reserving judgement until the end of the voting in both the house and senate.

THAT is why the "stupid party" label sticks, because we won't stick with our guy over stupid stuff even if he is a sitting president.

Nothing stupid about wanting our elected officials to obey the supreme law of the land. "right of the people .. shall not be infringed".
