"Very good point, the bill better spell out the "defective" means it literally malfunctions, an that defective can never mean a lack of "features", or the wrong shade of red for on the safety indicator, etc."
Nah, they just want to get it on the books and will fix it later.

Well, what does the line-up look like for Feinstein's amendment (AWB renewal, permanent and strengthened, which she is trying to tack onto S 1805)? We know that Kerry and Edwards are out campaigning, and Zell was absent for the cloture vote.
Wouldn't it be great if Kerry and Edwards' absences directly resulted in the AWB renewal amendment being killed? I realize that Feinstein will try again, but I'd still love to see it.
We know that Warner and DeWine have said that they'll vote to re-new the AWB. They are thankfully cancelled out (today) by Kerry and Edwards, being out. Might the dem candidates rush back to the Senate tomorrow if Feinstein's amendment is close?
Chafee is another Rino who will vote with Feinstein.
Anyone know which dem senators will vote to kill the AWB (Breaux?), and which Rinos will vote to re-new?

It's interesting to read through this thread - all the comments you all are posting by the Senators and all the commentary on those, to consider all that is riding on this discussion, and how hot and heavy the debate over this bill and its attatchments is, to think of the lobbying that has gone on behind the scenes and the money individuals have spent on both sides to try to influence the outcome - and have the following thought spring up in my mind like a boot-trampled flower:
SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED

Sheeshh... how long does it take to consider a "motion to proceed"? It's the U. S. Senate (formely known as), "the Greatest Deliberative Body in the World", (aka: the biggest bunch of windbags in the world) It can take a loooooonnnng time.

The only thing that could take longer would be if they were debating in "old Entish". Pardon the JRR reference.
It doesn't even take my wife this long to figure out what she wants to wear in the morning.

My Guess
Dems that switch - Ben Nelson. Rest can't be counted on, but MAYBE Breaux, Baucus, or Lincoln(election year) come through.
RINOS - DeWine, Warner, Chafee, Voinovich. Lugar, Fitzgerald and Specter less likely, but can't be coutned on.

This ought to be good watching Specter. He has a formidable challenger coming up in the primary.

So it looks like the vote on Feinstein's AWB renewal bill in the Senate could come down to one vote.
I realize that the AWB ewnewal would *probably* not pass the House, but I'd love to do a Barney Fife on this Bill. and "Nip it in the bud"!

Did I miss something? Why is this guy nattering on about the ATT? Is this one of the so-called "riders" they want to try to attach?

Bingaman is simply taking advantage of the delay on S1805 to "speak as if in Morning Business", where many extraneous items can be discussed.
