The whole internet being down was my train of throught as well. Cutting communications would seem to be a key component of causing widespread panic (no one would know what was going on unless they had usable battery or ham radios). You raise a good point here.

Doubt it. It was designed to handle things like this. However, it might take out some areas and leave black holes.

The good thing though, is that is a double edged sword. They wouldn't be able to communicate either.

Does everyone know a person with a ham radio? We have ham operators here in our community that participate in our emergency ops plan. Maybe we could set something up with a relay in case of internet or electrical problems. We could have their numbers posted for contact in case of an emegency.
