I think there is another dog related bioterrorism concern that bears my concern as well. It is the Black Plague. The
dog factor is fleas. Symptoms are prostration, very high fever, swollen, tender and painful glands, chills, respiratory distress and rapid onset. Mortality is 60 to 100%. The Soviets cultured and manufactured various bio-weapons in 40 factories years ago, amongst them was
plague. If you research bio-weapons, you will be surprised to see how many of the symptoms for the various bio-agents are similar: respiratory distress, fever, chills, headache, backache, muscle pain, shortness of breath, hacking cough, chest pain, swollen glands. Your life could hinge of how quicky you sought medical treatment, if treatment for that agent was available. Scary stuff if you think you only have the flu or a nasty virus (which indeed it would be).
Black Plague is not viral. It is caused by a bacterium, Pasteurella Pestis. Also known as Yersinia Pestis Major. Infection can come from infected fleas OR via droplet infection. The flea bite route causes the lymph nodes to become painfully filled with bacteria. The abdominal nodes swell to the size of potatoes. They are also called "buboes" in this condition thus "bubonic plague". The pneumonic form kills more rapidly and is more easily spread from human to human via droplet infection.
Assuming that you are not dealing with a weaponized, antibiotic resistent strain, you can treat the infection with antibiotics.
Thinking back to some of the jihad sites- they stressed that we would not know for 24 to 48 hours after the bio attack- I wonder which of the germs has that incubation period.
Also, has there been anymore information about Marburg Germany?
