February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

I can't "freep" tonight- but tomorrow I'll go back over to "The Final Phase" and locate the Russian statements regarding their exercises. They said something along the lines that the US might use wmd in an unprovoked (?) and irrational manner. And that they needed to be prepared for such. At the time, the wording sounded quite odd- as if they were trying to provide (in advance) a rationale for why we might "attack" them. IMO- they certainly MUST know that they are guilty of assisting AQ- and if AQ strikes us with WMD- they will be held responsible to some degree.

The other thing I saw on final phase this evening was an interesting discussion under the thread about Norad being on high alert. The poster who had initiated that thread has started another one, called "the coming bioweapon attack". I only had a chance to skim it, but basically he was saying that a BIO attack seems to be what the US gov. is most worried about at this time- even moreso than nukes.

Have a safe evening. Prayers for all. Hopefully I won't be 500 posts behind tomorrow.

Snipped from the CIA website, I hope that's legal.......

Nationality: noun: Maldivian(s) Ethnic groups: South Indians, Sinhalese, Arabs Religions: Sunni Muslim Languages: Maldivian Dhivehi (dialect of Sinhala, script derived from Arabic),

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, how did they rule out that these guys were not terrorists scoping out the area. Where was their regular pilot if they were students? From Maldives and they are ok??????

This letting people off the hook so easily is really getting to me. Why did they take off running when she said she was going to get a trooper? There's a lot of unanswered questions. Also the Maldives is a great place to learn how to scuba dive

Sure sounds close to that anyway. This line is the one that gets me. "reciprocal access to segments of each nation's weapons systems"

3. Communications must be made in a mode called upper sideband.

Although it bucks the tradition of using LSB, the use of USB allows a simple AM receiver with a BFO (beat frequency oscillator) to detect and recover usable audio. LSB appears "inverted" to an ordinary AM receiver. I suspect there is a population of "legacy" receivers that the policy is intended to "include".

A short technical comment follows for others on the thread that might be interested in how and why the signals are constructed in a particular fashion.

USB and LSB are forms of "single-sideband, suppressed carrier". The carrier and modulating audio are mixed on a balanced bridge. The output is "double-sideband, suppressed carrier". Ordinary AM is "double-sideband, full carrier". A narrow filter tuned above the carrier frequency permits USB to pass and excludes the LSB signal. A similar filter tuned below the carrier frequency would pass LSB and exclude the USB signal. Since only the sideband carries useful information, it is advantageous to strip out the carrier and the redundant side-band.

Thanks for the insight; that's a very good point.

For those of you who are familiar with CB but not amateur radio, you might have heard single sideband on the CB channels. When you listen to a single sideband transmission on an AM reciever (which is the only kind most CB transceivers have), the voice sounds like one of the adults from a Charlie Brown cartoon. You know what I'm talking about, right? :)

Let's just say I'm biding my time. Look up a semi-famous quote from Claire Wolf if you don't know what I mean.

I'm going to lean on the fact that the second paragraph has no source and is hearsay. I would rather not lend it thought.

>>>The reason I asked is that was the name of my poodle that died last March 11. Is that a coinkydink or what?

Actually, I think it is rather sweet (or surreal) that we nicknamed you that in light of your poodle passing. Cause you know we had no idea.

>>>>You can call me that for him, but not for that creature living in the cereal box.

Oh no, you aren't getting out of a little tease here and there! Not with me around anyway ^-^
