February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

Spain says it foiled bomb plot by Basque separatist group
March 1, 2004
BY ED MCCULLOUGH
MADRID, Spain -- For the second time in just more than two months, Spain on Sunday averted a bombing by the Basque separatist group ETA after the Civil Guard stopped a small truck and found about 1,100 pounds of bomb-making chemicals, officials said.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Hope I can add something useful to these discussions occasionally.
These latest coordinated attempts to cause conflicts between branches of Islam are very worrying. This is actually part of an ongoing attempt to destabilize the governments in Iraq and Pakistan. (Similar attacks on Shias happened last week in Saudi Arabia.) This effort was also behind the attempts to kill Musharrif in Pakistan.
AQ knows that having radical Islamic governments installed in Pakistan (nukes) and Saudi (oil) would be a tremendous blow to the West. Especially if continued conflict in Iraq kept large numbers of coalition troops "fixed" in place there for any lenght of time. Let's hope the Shia's understand that this is an effort to mainipulate them. (And that the Iranians stay on the sidelines.) It could well backfire in AQ's face and actually promote greater efforts to coexist. (Here's hoping...)
I forget who mentioned smallpox above, but let me assure you there have been no confirmed cases of Smallpox anywhere. That would be a world health emergency of unprecedented proportions, and couldn't be kept quiet. That region (South Asia) has many endemic illnesses that appear periodically. (Some of which have also been researched as BW.) I see some of you are familiar with ProMed mail, which is a great way to get the scoop from the horse's mouth on infectious diseases. (Now *there* is a mixed metaphor for you!) For example, a case of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever in Kandahar is not surprising. Fifty cases in Cleveland would be a different story...
Speaking of bioterrorism, I see on Steve Quayles site that he thinks some sort of airborne disease was intentionally unleashed on US bases in Germany. Not so. It happened on German bases, and is a an unusually bad case of known disease. A poor Dutch translation initially referred to US bases, but it was later corrected.

Anyway. It's lunchtime, so I'm off.

Jesse Jackson agreed with a Washington D.C. City Council resolution that praised Farrakhan and Nation of Islam "for their good works fighting drugs in the city." (The New Republic, 12-18-89, page 9).
Jesse Jackson allowed Nation of Islam security teams to provide security during his 1983-84 presidential race until the Secret Service took over. Also he was reluctant to denounce Farrakhan's support. (Jesse: the Life and Pilgrimage of Jesse Jackson, by Marshall Frady, 1996, Random House, pages 18, 22, 349, 349-356.)
Marshall Frady's book, on page 352, Frady quotes a former campaign advisor to Jesse Jackson who said that "Jesse saw Farrakhan as sort of this generation's Malcolm, someone who had the courage to speak out and who had tremendous attraction for the black community." Frady continued saying that Farrakhan is the only black leader who can go anywhere in the US and have thousands of blacks show up to see him.
Also on page 352, Frady continues on the subject of Jackson's 1984 presidential race: "Jackson's unwillingness to anathematize Farrakhan was actually shared by many black ministers. 'I cannot disown him, because he is a black brother,' announced Reverend T.J. Jemison, president of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc.; and the head of the Congress of National Black Churches, African Methodist Episcopal bishop John Hurst Adams, declared, 'Farrakhan is tapping deep feelings based on four hundred years of racism, and speaks for many more blacks than just his followers.'" Frady quotes a white Jackson advisor who admitted that he "found out there was a totally different reality in the black community about Farrakhan from that in the liberal white community." Frady quotes a man who was NBC's principal political correspondent in 1984 and who covered The National Association of Black Mayors convention taking place at that time in Kansas City. The former principal correspondent said that Farrakhan was invited to speak at a "prayer breakfast" held by the mayors and that after the speech the more than 400 black mayors, of whom over 300 were Baptist ministers, stood on their feet "roaring for Farrakhan." The former principal correspondent relayed the incident to NBC but "NBC killed the piece" on the grounds that their sources said Farrakhan was not a major factor among blacks; yet, as the former correspondent relates, their source was one black intern at NBC.

Civil Rights Chief Warns White House of Al Qaeda-U.S. Muslim Threat
NewsMax ^ | 10/26/02 | Limbacher
Posted on 10/26/2002 2:44:06 PM CDT by Tumbleweed_Connection
The head of one of the nation's most prominent civil rights organizations has warned the White House that the rise of radical Islam within America's black community could provide a breeding ground for the perpetrators of the next wave of terror attacks against the U.S.
In a letter sent to the Bush administration on Friday, Congress of Racial Equality Chairman Roy Innis requested a meeting with Homeland Security Czar Tom Ridge, Attorney General John Ashcroft and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice to discuss what he sees as the "clear and present danger" posed to U.S. race relations by the rising tide of "non-spiritual" Muslim conversions.
Innis fears that the trend has left too many sympathetic to al Qaeda and its anti-American agenda, providing a waiting pool of potential terrorist recruits.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/fr/776383/posts So what kind of a game is the Bush administration playing? The only reasonable conclusion is that this volley of accusations is a pre-emptive justification for some political or military action against Iran.

Weapons of Mass Insurrection

Revolutionary zeal unites Louis Farrakhans Nation of Islam with urban street gangs and radical Muslim regimes, creating a serious threat to Americas internal security
The Farrakhan Factor
Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan burst onto the national scene as a "black leader" when he conducted his so-called "Million Man March" in 1995. A few months later, Farrakhan embarked on a "World Friendship Tour," visiting radical Muslim regimes in Iran, Nigeria, Sudan, Libya, Iraq, and Syria

Public invited to get involved in base security (Oklahoma)
By SUSAN WOOLSEY, staff writer Tuesday, March 2, 2004 11:29 AM CST
For now and into the future, we are being asked to be "the eyes and ears of the ammunition plant."
And if we see or hear something that alarms us we should "call our local law enforcement authorities," according to Mark Hughes, media spokesperson for the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant.
Hughes said that all this week, various people will be going up to everyday citizens on the street and asking questions such as "How many gates are there at the army plant?" and "How many guards are at the front gate?" and "How many entrances are there?"
The people who will be asking the questions, he said, are part of a test of McAAP's anti-terrorism plan and not actual would-be terrorists. "I want to emphasize that this community awareness exercise is not in response to any particular or specific threat to the McAlester area or the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant," Hughes said Monday. "This exercise is just one of many that is conducted annually army-wide.
"The purpose of this exercise is to make citizens aware of the role they have in the security of their hometown and of the ammunition plant."
Hughes said the exercise began Monday and "will end at 5 p.m. Friday, March 5."
If someone is asking leading, suspicious questions about security at the plant, Hughes said they should be reported.
"Just politely tell them 'I don't know anything about that.' Get a good look at the person and if they happen to ID themselves with their name, that's great. Just turn right around and call the local law enforcement."
"Again, I want to emphasize that this is just an exercise that is designed to inform citizens on how they can assist local law enforcement officials by being aware of the type of questions that could be asked by unknown individuals."

All I kept hearing stressed on the news today was how it will be impossible for them to have their own government come June and for our troops to leave. someone else besides AlQ is behind this. Someone is trying to cause this dissention between the Shites and the rest. Someone is deliberately sabotaging and creating a civil unrest in these countries!

FBI releases pilots after questioning (Texas)
By ANNA BOUDREAU
Staff Writer
Four men who landed an airplane in Stephenville Friday prompted law enforcement officers to investigate their suspicious actions, but the FBI freed them in Fort Worth following separate interrogations.
Four males flew into our airport and left the airport using a golf cart to go to Hard 8 Barbecue to have lunch, said Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant. After lunch they went over to the DPS office and went into the drivers license office to acquire about getting Texas identification cards.
Bryant said the lady working in the drivers license office became suspicious of the men because each had numerous passports and identification cards something she learned in her training should indicate there might be trouble.(snipped...click link for rest of the article)

Canada admits:
We're terror haven
22-page intelligence report says 'most notorious' groups still flock to nation
The world's "most notorious" terrorist groups continue to operate in Canada, says a classified intelligence report written two years after Parliament gave police new powers and money to dismantle the country's deadly terror networks, reports the National Post.
In a 22-page assessment of the security threats facing the nation, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service said international terrorists are still using the country as a base for waging worldwide political and religious violence.

Great article on Haiti...................Americans should let Haiti be
Haiti. We should let them sort out their own affairs, rather than attempt to impose a failed national solution, as Bill Clinton did.
The above quote from that article pretty well sums it up. The only negative about it is that innocent people will nevertheless be victimized by the thug groups who consistently cause chaos in Haiti. Elimination of the thug groups is the only solution- but an almost impossible one to implement. It is similar in scope to the situation in Iraq and Pakiston whereby they protect their own no matter what the cost in human lives.
