[history]
February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

Iran's radio says Bin Laden captured
03:30:37 È.Ù
Tehran, Feb 28 - Iran's state radio has quoted an informed source as saying that Osama Bin Laden had been captured in a tribal region in Pakistan.
The radio's external service, broadcast in Pushtun, said US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's trip to Pakistan on Thursday had been made in connection with the capture.
The radio said, "the capture of the Al-Qaeda leader has been made sometime before, but (US President George W.) Bush is intending to announce it when the American presidential election is held."
Contacted by IRNA, an IRIB announcer at the Pusthtun service, confirmed the news, which he said, they had got from a 'very reliable source' in Peshawar, Pakistan.
"Osama Bin Laden has been arrested a long time ago, but (US President George W.) Bush is intending to use it for propaganda maneuvering in the presidential election," he said.
Osama's head on a platter is believed to be a big boost to Bush's presidential chances, which are increasingly being eclipsed by Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry.
The Saudi-born dissident is accused of masterminding the September 11, 2001 attacks on American landmarks in New York and Washington.
Visiting Kabul on Thursday, Rumsfeld said he believes Osama will be caught, but has no idea when.

My Farsi is a little rusty, but to the Iranian state controlled news agency...
"Fekr nemikonam intorbasheh eshtebah mikoni."
I was taught that phase back in the early seventies by Iranian college students (prior to the overthrow of the Shah). It means "I don't believe you, I think you are incorrect" or words to that effect.
Osama bin Laden was not capured in Pakistan. We happen to know he was captured in western Iran on 20 January 2004 by US Special Forces.

>I will be overjoyed, but also a little wary. The official announcement of OBL's capture could cause the jihadis to go off of the deep end. If we have withheld the news of his capture for the last month, it is probably because we wanted to prepare our defenses for the announcement. It's not too hard to believe that there are cells with suicide missions if OBL is captured or killed.<
We have to keep in mind that the capture of bin Laden is not the end to our war on terrorism. He's the biggest fish and a big blow to Al Qaida, but I'm sure AQ may have anticipated his capture and planned on whom will take OBL's place. I would have preferred bin Laden and his doctor be captured and killed unbeknown to us all as to when and how, but known for certain that he had been killed.

So true. Until officially confirmed it will remain a rumor.

I'm guessing we have him and we got him in Iran with the BAM operation.

This is also an area where one of the powder scares occurred a week ago.
I wish I knew how to do GIS. It would really be great to mark these powder scares, strange illnesses, bomb scares and stuff to see how they are geographicly related.

Sounds like disinformation by the Iranians in an attempt to sabotage Bush's reelection campaign.
Until confirmed by the administration it's just another rumor.

If you're posting from Iran or thereabout, what are the local media saying about this news? Is it a rumor or is it legit?

January 20! And who is WE?
If you're in the Paki/Afghanistan area, please tell us what you hear. We'd like to know direct accounts of this story.

The flag isn't on fire, those are repeats of the nuclear explosion pic, IMO.
To: nw_arizona_granny
Looking at the picture of the American Flag with the Nuclear Explosions around the edges. Are the locations of the explosions on the Flag idicative of strategic locations inside the United States? Are those general locations where they would like to explode a nuclear device?
Possibly Ports of entry?

Unusual thing occurred this morning....I opened a new, just purchased box of Kelloggs Fruit Harvest cereal and inside was a thick white web like material. Big, it was the size of the box from side to side!! At first before I opened the package it looked like there was something in there like a coupon. There also appeared to be several cocoon like objects. I didn't inspect too closely but I have never opened a box of cereal to find something like that!!
Will have to check where this is produced and distributed. I'm saving the box....outside!!
Anyone else ever see this sort of thing???

Your article about Africa rang particularly true. With all the poverty there it is truly a potential breeding ground for terrorists. Civil unrest and chaos there is almost the rule.

Get it out of your house!! NOW!!! It could be rice moths, they feed on cereal products, rice, flour, etc. They can get inside of anything not sealed tight in ziploc bags or tight sealing cannisters. Once they make it inside your house it can be almost impossible to get rid of them.
To: Cindy
Announcement of the possible capture was made on our local TV station - and it was noted it was based on reports from news reports in the region of the capture. Denials about the capture, however, from larger media sources.

I did put it outside right away. This was inside a sealed box of cereal from the store. Doesn't say much for quality control at Kelloggs. I'm going to e-mail them.

I would e-mail Kellogg, but it most likely was infested in the warehouse of your local grocery store or their distributor. I would change grocery stores if I were you.
