February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

What's your gut telling you? He (AmericaUnited) seems awfully confident. Plus that story about Bret Baer from Fox News? And all of the military officers telling us it's only a matter of time?

Well, I believed it enough to turn on my TV for the first time -g- with any OBL rumors, you know me I've been the biggest skeptic. I am believing they will not reveal the truth at this time, but all I can do is speculate why?

The government is lying {ours} There is too much foggy comments by us, fuzzy

Someone leaked the info in Iran, we are pissed, Sean is probably right

{{{"Iranian state radio quoted its reporter as saying the arrest happened a long time ago.
"Osama bin Laden has been arrested a long time ago, but Bush is intending to use it for propaganda maneuvering in the presidential election," he said."
Speaking to the AP in Tehran, Hossein identified one of the sources for the bin Laden report as Shamim Shahed, editor of the English-language Pakistani newspaper The Nation in Peshawar. Hossein said Shahed told him Friday night that bin Laden was arrested "a long time ago."

But Shahed, who is The Nation's Peshawar bureau chief and not its editor, denied telling the Iranian radio station that bin Laden had been captured.

"I never said this," Shahed said in a telephone interview with the AP's Islamabad bureau. "But I have for the last year been saying that he is not far away. He is within their (the Americans') reach, and they can declare him arrested any time."

Hossein said he had a second source for his report that bin Laden had been captured, but he declined to identify him except to say he was "a man with close links to intelligence services and Afghan tribal leaders."}}}

The Iranian news agency IRNA {{{was first to report the capture of Saddam Hussein. }}}IRNA also carried the state radio report about bin Laden's capture and said it had contacted a radio announcer at the Pushtun service who confirmed the news.

I think the US, Pakistan and Iran are all on board this one now, going out on a limb but I've not believed nada to this point

Could be. I'm still checking around on other sites. Got CNN on, too. They were the first network to break with SoDammed's capture. They aren't saying anything at all about this. They're just doing a piece right now about the hunt for OBL.

I'll give it a few more minutes before I have to give up. :-)

I'm too tired to write much of a coherent response, but I agree. We may not hear the official news today, but I'm about 98% sure we got him. Probably when Sean said.

P.S. I'm so sick of Fox News only talking about Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant, Martha Stewart, Scott Peterson, blah, blah, blah... :(

DEBKA says:

"Iranian media confusion over reported capture of Osama bin Laden. Saturday, Iran’s state radio in Pushtun announced his capture by US forces in Pakistan. Iran's Al-Alaam Arabic station followed with denial of first report from its Kabul correspondent."

Kasuri says he cannot confirm reports of Osama's capture
Press Trust of India
Islamabad, February 28

Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri on Saturday declined to confirm reports of Osama bin Laden's arrest.

"I cannot confirm it. They (the troops) made an effort (to capture him) but (I) cannot confirm it," Kasuri said at a joint press conference with visiting French Foreign Minister Dominique Devilpan here, when asked about the reports of bin Laden's capture."

Looks like a big attempt was made. Capture not confirmed, not denied. Looks like we'll be in the air for a while yet.

Hillary: Bush should thank Bill for military
Insists Clinton administration deserves credit for U.S. successes

Posted: February 28, 2004

In a foreign policy speech at a Washington think tank, Sen. Hillary Clinton chided President Bush for not thanking her husband for handing the current administration such a strong military.

The Democrat from New York told an audience at the Brookings Institution Bush is now engaged in "nation building" in Iraq, a concept he derided during his 2000 campaign.
