"The marriage certificates submitted to the Department of Health Services by the city and county of San Francisco fail to meet legal standards," Schwarzenegger said in a statement on his Web site.

San Francisco on Thursday filed a lawsuit against the state of California, challenging the state law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman only, the city attorney's office said.

his bond issue is nothing more than a band-aid which puts off the inevitable and piles 6 BILLION DOLLARS OF INTEREST ON A 15 BILLION DOLLAR BOND

Well, on the one hand, I voted no on the bonds (57). But on the other hand, that's because I want spending hacked, not because it's a bad idea per se to refinance high-interest debt to obtain a lower interest rate. So, yes, it's going to result in $6B interest ... which is a heckuva lot less than what we'd pay in interest if we didn't refinance ... AND if we don't hack spending (which is my preference.)

He also waited for the local state courts to handle it. When an injunction or cease & desist order wasn't handed down the governor stepped in.

And now we wait.

Being a neighbor for 10 years makes one an authority on Arnold? LOL! "got rich"? LOL! Sounds like a little envy of their betters to me.

Unlsess something along the lines of a Constitutional Amendment outlawing homosexual (mairrages), these sites will become common throughout a very (perverted) United States of America . . Inside San Francisco's City Hall, a lesbian couple embrace after being married.

Schwarzenegger: Same-sex marriages illegal
Same-sex couples in line Thursday to get marriage licenses

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says the marriage licenses San Francisco is issuing to same-sex couples are illegal. Meanwhile, the city yesterday filed suit against the state challenging the law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

"This can't be true -- after all, Arnold is a RINO who will just cave-in."

Even Gray Davis took up exactly the same position as Arnold has. Homosexual "marriage" is a third rail in California, as proven by the huge margin of victory for the "definition of marriage" amendment. IOW, Arnold would have no choice but to oppose the licenses, no matter what his personal feelings might be -- unless, of course, he didn't intend to run for office in California again.

the licenses issued this week aren't worth the paper they're written on;

I understand the city charged a fee of $82 (or was it $92). About 2500 people applied for gay marriages. Looks like a revenue generator for SF.

"you guys screwed up?" You know you really should get your facts straight before you stick your ignorant neck out. The Dimwit Davis and the liberal legislature are responsible for the spending...that's why we "we guys" had him recalled. ROFLMAO And yes, if McClintock had been elected governor his budget would call for a 13% cut off the top which would bring the budget into balance next year. Again...let us know when you move to CA and in the mean time learn the facts before you make inane accusations...

"BTW, is Newsom bisexual?"

Unlikely. If he were, he would have gotten more votes in SF. Pandering to the homosexual crowd guarantees him all the money and clout he needs to get re-elected in this town. That's why he's doing this. Money and other support will pour in for him --from LA, NYC and elsewhere, not just locally. The media will fawn over him endlessly.

Well if we are successfull against Propositions 55-58 and we hold RINOld's and the legislature's feet to the fire maybe we can still reach our goal of a balanced budget without more taxes, fees and bonds. The problem has never been revenue. The revenue has gone up every year. The problem is that they are spending more and more and more each year than they are bringing in.

"The marriage certificates submitted to the Department of Health Services by the city and county of San Francisco fail to meet legal standards," Schwarzenegger said in a statement on his Web site.

In a related story, lawmakers in Sacramento are proposing a new law that would issue illegal aliens a similar gay marriage certificate that looks strikingly similar to the certificates issued in San Fransisco. Spokeshuman for LatinGLAD, Ben Dover hailed the move as positive, noting the bill will help alleviate the shortage of latino gays. "Assimilating latino gays into the US homosexual community due to the large following of Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, and Charo will be a plus," Rep. R. Ranger (D) stated.

I'm with you on that 100%.

I still have a lot of hope that Arnold is leading the Lefties down the garden path. That, for example, if this new Illegals' Licensing bill passes, he'll first "study it," purposefully delaying by months, then "decline to sign" (not "veto," heavens no) because of what he will publicly characterize as a "fixable" disagreement over this issue or that. I really don't think he wants to be remember as the bozo who allowed illegals to be licensed. (He may not have the b***s to want to be seen as STOPPING it either, but ...)

First off. You elected Davis in the first place. Second, just because someone promises a 13% cut "off the top" does not mean it will happen. I doubt the Dems in the State Legislature would go for it. CA is in shambles. You have rolling blackouts, Rampant illegal immigration problems, huge social issues, pay huge taxes (Oh and some of your political leaders want to add more "ON the TOP". CA is controlled for the most part by special interest left wing ideology. And for your information I was born and raised in CA. but I chose to leave for the Midwest where people still have a sense of reality.

Like this action?

Schwarzenegger on Same-Sex Marriage Lawsuit by San Francisco

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger released the following statement today:

"The people of California spoke on the issue of same-sex marriage when Prop. 22 was overwhelmingly passed in 2000. I will abide by the oath I took when I was sworn-in to uphold California's laws.

"The marriage certificates submitted to the Department of Health Services by the City and County of San Francisco fail to meet legal standards. The Attorney General has assured me that he will vigorously defend the constitutionality of the law in the case brought against the state by San Francisco."
