Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan (D) and other local officials came to Annapolis yesterday to protest nine bills they consider anti-immigrant, including one that would outlaw Montgomery's acceptance of consular identification cards from Mexico and Guatemala as proof of identity.
Other measures would require local police to detain suspected illegal immigrants and to suspend the driver's license of anyone who knowingly permitted an illegal immigrant to use his or her vehicle.
Officials and immigrant advocates predicted that the bills would be voted down in committee. What prompted them to speak out, they said, was concern that, taken as a package, the proposals created an atmosphere of intolerance...
"These bills are mean-spirited and misguided," Duncan said...
Prince George's County State's Attorney Glenn F. Ivey and Montgomery County Council member Tom Perez (D-Silver Spring) also testified against the measures yesterday...
The bills they oppose include one that would codify the state's practice of barring most illegal immigrants from obtaining a driver's license, another that would require people to prove citizenship upon registering to vote, and two that would set up task forces to study how much illegal immigration costs the state and the health care system...

We MUST not allow the liberals to win this one.
I like this idea a lot, only take the "knowingly" out and require the vehicle owner to demonstrate positively that he did NOT know, rather than put the burden on the authorities to demonstrate that he DID know.
This one thing served very effectively in the eighties to restrict the movements of illegals, which helped a great deal in enforcement.
Rich white ladies who liked to have maids at starvation wages in El Paso often got their pretty cars impounded and sold at auction!! Fun!!
I have a parody/comic guerilla-theatre politics idea to rattle the cages of these idiot politicians and force their hands, and make them look even more like the naive fools they are.
Why not place a bogus ad in the major Hispanic language newspaper in the DC area, listing Doug Duncan's office address and number, as well as home address, just as you have, stating in Spanish to all "Undocumented in Virginia" (Atencion, Todos los indocumentados en Estado de Virginia!), again, in Spanish, that they should not worry about recent actions by the Virginia Senate in Richmond, that they have unfettered and free/humanitarian sanctuary across the Potomac in Maryland, that they should immediately head to both the office and the home of Doug Duncan, who, along with his staff of caseworkers, will be most happy to provide food, shelter, blankets and other material comforts during the period they can, again with the help of Maryland, get their documents in order and transition from that INTOLERANT VIRIGINIA to DIVERSE and WELCOMING MARYLAND citizenship and residency.

They aren't always that rich --- just too lazy to make their own beds or take their kids to day-care. I know one who went through maids --- a new one ever few months. First she decided to get young ones thinking they'd do more work. Within a couple months, they'd get pregnant, work up until their labor started, she drove them to the county hospital and get a new one -- which was fine with the maid because they would be getting a welfare check which pays them more. She got tired of a new maid every few months so she decided to bring in an old one --- that one worked out for a few months also --- but she apparently was quite ill --- probably cancer --- so she had to be dropped off in front of the county hospital and replaced.
Sorry Doug, some things just weren't meant to be tolerated. Why don't y'all come on down to Cochise County and see the havoc your wonderful little friends have visited upon us? Of course, the fact that NINE bills have been submitted in your state may indicate that you don't really have to leave home to see the effects of illegal immigration...
