Why does this not surprise me?
BUCHANAN: He [Edwards] has plugged into the No. 1 economic issue in this campaign. That is jobs and the betrayal of the American worker, white collar with outsourcing, blue collar with these deals with China and NAFTA. He has got that issue. I think he only helps himself. The only way he can hurt himself if he gets brutal on Kerry and hurts himself with the party or he runs so long that he starts to look ridiculous.
Speaking from personal experience, Pat?

Well they both purport to be populists.
Not really that surprising.

I saw this talking heads bit.
Buchanan was supporting Edwards' championing of the jobs issue and NAFTA and WTO. In this sense, Edwards is the only politician on the national stage that is willing to address the issue. And it is one that Buchanan certainly cares about.
As far as Jackson, he was grinning like the Cheshire cat, obviously teasing Buchanan a bit.
Someone ought to email the Reverend Jesse a copy of this thread. He'd certainly enjoy having pulled the wool over the eyes of a bunch of FReepers with his little baiting joke.
I notice a few remarks about Buchanan as some kind of Nazi. Pretty strange when the basis of the accusation is from someone with a known anti-Semitic past. If you recall, Buchanan was not the person who brought the phrase "Hymietown" to primetime television.

Buchanan is on a quest, he used to be on a quest to destroy the one ring but now he covets the one ring.

Awesome.

JACKSON: And Pat Buchanan is closer ideologically to John Edwards than he is to George Bush. And that itself again is expanding the base. MATTHEWS: Is that the case? BUCHANAN: Well, if you get allon the jobs issue, yes. I am so glad Pat Buchanan is no longer a Republican, so glad he and Lyndon LaRouche are Bush hating Democrats. Of course I wish they would both repent, but I'm glad they are not in our party.

John Edwards and Pat Buchanan are absolutely right on this issue. Free Trade is a good thing, but having our trade policy turned over the the UN Trade Organization WTO, GATT, and NAFTA.
This is the biggest mistake both parties have done to help Multi National, don't give a damn about America companies.
Comparative Advantage is a proper economic trade policy. But it does not exist unless both sides trading a free people.
Communist Dictatorships like China, Viet Nam, and Socialist Economies such as France, Canada, Mexico, and Germany are impossible to have free trade with, they don't allow the market to set prices, they fix them to their benefit.
