Hardball with Chris Matthews Feb. 18, Wednesday
JACKSON: ... student activists and Pat Buchanan all support Edwards.
That itself is a broadening of the base.
MATTHEWS: Do you support Edwards?
BUCHANAN: I support Edwards campaign, yes. I would like to see him do well. I would like to see him go forward with this issue. I would like to see him make it at the convention, because its important for the country.
(CROSSTALK)
MATTHEWS: Reverend Jackson
(CROSSTALK)
JACKSON: And Pat Buchanan is closer ideologically to John Edwards than he is to George Bush. And that itself again is expanding the base.
MATTHEWS: Is that the case?
BUCHANAN: Well, if you get allon the jobs issue, yes.

Why does this not surprise me?
BUCHANAN: He [Edwards] has plugged into the No. 1 economic issue in this campaign. That is jobs and the betrayal of the American worker, white collar with outsourcing, blue collar with these deals with China and NAFTA. He has got that issue. I think he only helps himself. The only way he can hurt himself if he gets brutal on Kerry and hurts himself with the party or he runs so long that he starts to look ridiculous.
Speaking from personal experience, Pat?

Well they both purport to be populists.
Not really that surprising.

The only appreciable difference between Pat Buchanan and Cynthia Mckinney, nowadays, is that one of them has a moderately better tan. :)

I saw this talking heads bit.
Buchanan was supporting Edwards' championing of the jobs issue and NAFTA and WTO. In this sense, Edwards is the only politician on the national stage that is willing to address the issue. And it is one that Buchanan certainly cares about.
As far as Jackson, he was grinning like the Cheshire cat, obviously teasing Buchanan a bit.
Someone ought to email the Reverend Jesse a copy of this thread. He'd certainly enjoy having pulled the wool over the eyes of a bunch of FReepers with his little baiting joke.
I notice a few remarks about Buchanan as some kind of Nazi. Pretty strange when the basis of the accusation is from someone with a known anti-Semitic past. If you recall, Buchanan was not the person who brought the phrase "Hymietown" to primetime television.

Buchanan is on a quest, he used to be on a quest to destroy the one ring but now he covets the one ring.
