In case this never makes the National News...at least you will see it!
This picture of the statue was made by an Iraqi artist named Kalat, who for years was forced by Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad.
This artist was so grateful that the Americans liberated his country,he melted 3 of the fallen Saddam heads and made a memorial statue dedicated to the American soldiers and their fallen comrades.
Kalat worked on this night and day for several months.
To the left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving the soldier comfort as he mourns the loss of his comrade in arms. It is currently on display outside the palace that is now home to the 4th Infantry division.
It will eventually be shipped and shown at the memorial museum in Fort Hood, Texas.
This is amazing! Beautiful work!

Gorgeous. Very moving.
I hope the folks at Ft. Hood give it prominence and explain its special history. If there is a memorial chapel on the base, it would be especially appropriate there.

Thank you so much for posting this! I wrote FNC many times after I saw this beautiful statue on their programs, asking them to post it to their website. They never did, that I saw.

Hmph! Last I heard from ABCCBSNBCPBS, the Iraqis didn't want us there.
(sarcasm off)
It's nice to know that the sacrifices of our courageous troops are appreciated by the bulk of Iraqis. It's a fine piece of work and we, as a nation, are humbled to be so honored by such a moving piece of artwork.

Cool. I read about this, or a similar gesture yesterday. The statue is great.
