At least you, and now your children, know who your fathers were! Some children today are not so lucky. And at least you and your children have the benefit of your other male relatives.

I think a child who grows up at least knowing who their father was, and where they came from, is going to be better off than a child who is given the idea that he only has one "side" to his family.

The studies show pretty strongly that the three leading causes of homosexual behavior (Same-sex Attraction Disorder) are (1)being abused (either sexually or physically, with molestation being far and away the best indicator), (2)having an absent or insufficent relationship with one's father, and (3)relentless teasing by one's peers during the formative years. Of course not every person subjected to these horrors will contract SAD, but almost every SAD has one or more of these characteristics.

My best friend from childhood came out as a homosexual in college. He was the star quarterback in high school and very popular, and he was never teased when we were children. His parents are still married, and he is very close to both his father and mother. He swears he has never been abused, either emotionally or physically or sexually, by anyone period. In other words, aside from his homosexuality he is completely "normal." He is now 32 years old and is "partnered" with a man who is around his age, and he has been intimate with only two or three men in his lifetime. He says he has never been sexually interested in young boys, and that people who believe that gays prey on them are buying a myth. He told me that his gay friends are similar to him: they come from happy homes, were not teased relentlessly as children, etc. Again, I have known this man since we were 13, and I would trust him with my life, so I do not doubt anything he has told me. I know that homosexuality is an abomination, but I think we might need to just accept the fact that a lot of the propaganda going out as to its "cause" is false.

Well ... I have struggled with this very long. I am inclined to believe that some people are born gay, with a genetic predisposition to be attracted to the other sex. (I am not a doctor, nor am I willing to opine on any study or info quoted out of context here ... I am smart enough to admit I do not know those answers)

My guess is, however, that deviant sexual behavior is also learned. That is, people can be guided toward such behavior by events and environment. Sex, after all, is not all about attraction, it has many psycological elements including submission, resignation, violence, lack of self-esteem, rebellion etc.

So, in my humble, non medical opinion, I do think that many people perform gay sex acts that are not really born gay.

It is the deviancy that attracts some. I do not believe people are born to have sex with infants, or children, or animals, but rather some do s for a vast combination of reasons.

Having said all that, I have relatives who are gay, and I know some very committed professionals who are gay. And, there are just so many indications that they could not have ever been anything else.

In my mind, the act of gay sex is deviant behavior, and it should not be celebrated. By the same token, people should not be persecuted.

The argument over state recognition of gay marriage is really about whether or not we are prepared to celebrate the anomaly. I do not see why we would. But I have little tolerance for those who hate for the sake of hating. This from a pro-life, conservative, catholic, married, father of three.

Thank you for your thoughtful post. I do not know what your profession is, but you are a deep & open thinker. I imagine that you are right; some people are born with it, some folks learn it. Of course, I would have chosen that my son did not go that route. However, I would never turn my back on my children & believe it or not he really lives a more normal lifestyle than my daughter who is heterosexual. I too am strictly conservative, and am against liberal pushing this lifestyle; however, as usual, I don't think they know a whole lot about it. They just look for the opt to jump on whatever bandwagon.

My best friend was a gay man with AIDS (as were most of his friends). He was molested as a child and raised by a single mother. He had lots of sex partners even though he was in a live-in relationship. He, like Andrew Sullivan, looked for sex partners with AIDS on the internet. It gave him hepatitis. He was involved in all kinds of deviant sex, clubs, dungeons, whatever.

I also knew a bunch of gay women (who don't like to be called gay - why?). None where in long-term relationships.

There is lots of dysfunctional sex a-going on in the homosexual community. I watched Cruising the other day. What was considered fringe then is mainstream now. Remember Jesse Dirkhising.

As a caveat to above...I dont think Homosexuality should be illegal nor do I believe they should be treated as second hand citizens. I have and have known to many wonderful and "normal" people who happen to be gay. But its this CONSTANT Agenda pushing by the militants that scares me for our country's future.

Good point about Catholic Latinos. They don't play that! For all the problems we get out of these Mexicans flooding across the border, I think if we were to ask them if two men could get married to each other, or if two women could marry one another, we would get nothing more than a polite laugh, a wave of the hand, and a shake of the head. I seriously doubt if they would condone such a thing.

You should see the hepatitis statistics among homosexuals in New Orleans. One time a (female, heterosexual) friend of mine worked at a pastry shop there. Among the employees, top dog was this homosexual man who was learning to be a pastry chef. He got hepatitis, and the next thing you knew, people who worked there at the pastry shop were coming down with it, my friend included. And there are a million similar stories in the naked city.

I don't really care whether or not queers can link their homosexuality to their genes or if it is linked to a learned behavior or whatever excuse sounds good for the day. It is wrong no matter how you look at it. It is unnatural, it goes against everything that has been prooven to work for thousands of years, and most importantly it goes against Gods words. It is laid out in Leviticus in the Old Testament and Romans in the New Testament very clearly that it is a sin.
I just can't help but think that AIDS, herpes, and whatever other forms of sexually transmitted diseases these sexual deviants transmit is just a form of Gods punishment. I also can't help but think that AIDS will be the least of their problems if they don't clean up their act and start living a more humble and reverant lifestyle.
