Yep. The Democrat playbook redux.
Of course, we all remember the administration of President Stevenson, don't we?
I was only 13 and already on my way to political junkiedom, but Stevenson was a bore. Not that Ike was riveting or charismatic, his forte was more comfort and competence, but Stevenson could not speak to the average person. He was an elite and everyone knew it.

I remember the little ditty:
Whistle while you work,
for Stevenson's a jerk,
Eisenhower has the power,
so whistle while you work.
I've hated democrats all of my life.
In my kindergarten class photo, I have a huge "I LIKE IKE" button on my white starched collar.
Of course, nowadays, such an item is forbidden.

Good job in bringing out these past presidental races. Roosevelt, Stevenson, etc. etc.
It is sure to help support the many "quivering knees" here. ;)

Adlai couldn't even find the hole in the sole of his shoe with a search warrant.
His show-place family "farm" estate was not far from where I grew up. He was not a man of the soil except for walking on it. He actually was more a muddle-headed, socialist professorial geek than a member of the society elite.

Adlai was actually a stuffed shirt with the reputation of being an *intellectual* of the *pointy-headed* sort. Kerry is just someone to the manor born, with no intellectual creds at all. W/o his *war record*, all Kerry has to offer is 20 years on the public teat.
My emotional response to W is the same as the one I had as a kid towards Ike. I trust him. As a normally cynical sort, I find this amazing.
To: ambrose
So what are the Dems proposing to do to clinton for this?
To: ambrose
A bit like Kerry except that Stevenson was witty, articulate, and had a sense of humor. I'd never have voted for the man because of his party and politics, but his "I can wait till Hell freezes over" moment at the UN was classic.
