According to liberal watchdog group Americans For Democratic Action (ADA), John Kerry's lifetime voting record in the U.S. Senate is MORE liberal than fellow Massachussetts senator Edward M. Kennedy.
Here is the link to check for yourself. His 92 rating is two points higher than Kennedy's and higher than the man he replaced, the late Paul Tsongas.
In fairness, he has not outliberaled The Swimmer since 1997 and ADA has yet to post their 2003 rankings. His 1992 rating of 85 was Kerry's lowest in more than a decade, possibly as he mulled his potential candidacy. A rating of 100 means the senator voted every time the way this liberal group would have on key votes.
By contrast, John Edwards' lifetime record scores an 88 on their libometer. Joe Lieberman rates a 76. Carol Moseley-Braun scores an 88. Rep. Dennis Kucinich has a lifetime score of 90. Dick Gephardt checks in at 83.
Since Howard Dean, Wesley Clark and Al Sharpton have never been in Congress, it is impossible to say where they would rate but, of the Democrat candidates with a congressional voting record, John Kerry ranks as the most liberal of them all.
Here is the lifetime rankings from ADA of all the Democrats still in the U.S. Senate (does not include senators elected for the first time in 2002):
Corzine (NJ) 100
Reed (RI) 99
Durbin (IL) 98
Feingold (WI) 98
Schumer (NY) 98
Boxer (CA) 96
Clinton (NY) 95
Mikulski (MD) 94
Lautenberg (NJ) 93
Leahy (VT) 93
Wyden (OR) 93
Kerry (MA) 92
Akaka (HI) 92
Murray (WA) 92
Harkin (IA) 92
Levin (MI) 91
Sarbanes (MD) 91
Kennedy (MA) 90
Edwards (NC) 88
Feinstein (CA) 86
Bayh (IN) 85
Dorgan (ND) 85
Johnson (SD) 85
Dodd (CT) 84
Landrieu (LA) 84
Daschle (SD) 83
Lincoln (AR) 83
Rockefeller (WV) 83
Conrad (ND) 81
Bingaman (NM) 79
Baucus (MT) 76
Lieberman (CT) 76
Reid (NV) 76
Inouye (HI) 73
Biden (DE) 72
Graham (FL) 69
Byrd (WV) 61
Chafee (RI) 62 - oops, that's a RINO
Jeffords (VT) 61 - former RINO
Specter (PA) 59 - oops, another RINO
Breaux (LA) 55
Hollings (SC) 51
To be accurate, ADA hasn't updated the lifetime average for each state the same. Some were up to 2002, some up to 2000 and a few up to 1998. Massachussetts was thru 2002. Corzine and Clinton were figured by going through their year-by-year rankings. Also, one would have an unfair view of Hollings and Byrd by looking at their rankings since they were both in the Senate when being a southern Democrat wasn't such a horrible thing.
John Kerry is more liberal than Ted Kennedy.
Pass it on.
OMG! HE'S A MAD MAN !!!
(has he killed a girl yet?)
