Well said. I flew helicopters in Vietnam. I recall a fortunate few guys in flight school got assignments which made their going to Vietnam unlikely. We were happy for them! Others who found similar legitimate avenues to places other than Vietnam also had our blessing. Those who didn't stab us in the back while we were there, didn't call us war criminals afterward, and got on with their lives, I wish them well. I cannot say the same for Kerry. Or McGovern.

"No one has asked whether Kerry served honorable in combat. Of course he did". I wouldn't be too sure of that, something about his wartime heroics smells to high heaven.

I'm not inclined to give Benedict Arnold any credit for moving to England after the Revolutionary War; it's not like he had the option of remaining in the United States.
To: RonDog
Kerry's radical days are on the table, and the collective whining of all his pals in the print media won't take them off, any more than President Bush could get his Air National Guard service off the table until a thorough vetting was had. McAuliffe's rashness guaranteed that Brownstein's ruse won't work. Absolutely. The Liberals have been undermining GW for a year, so it's only fair to present the facts about Kerry and let the people decide.

"How long will it be, before Bubba and Bubbette hang Terry out to dry?"
Are you saying this in the belief that Bubba and Bubbette are unhappy with McAwful's strategy? Do you think they actually want Kerry to win?

I just think that, if things go poorly for the dims, regardless of who is running, Terry might get the ax. Certainly, if Madame Hamhocks is the candidate, and she loses, it won't be her fault. I don't think that there is anyone that the Clinton's would not sacrifice on their way back to the White House.

I suppose you are right. In Arnold's day, traitors were awarded the Order of the Hempen Necktie at a dignified public ceremony, not elected to the U.S. Senate.
Still, if you compare Arnold and Kerry's pre-turncoat records, Arnold was an authentic war hero at one time.

YES! Meek the tank photo is a doozie.
Thanks for the ping Ernie.

Yes, before he turned traitor, Arnold was a war hero, and his contributions were of major importance to the cause. If he had been mortally wounded at the battle of Saratoga, there would be towns, counties, and streets named for him all over the country.

Three key differences between Benedict Arnold and John Kerry: 1. Benedict Arnold fought in real battles. 2. Benedict Arnold received genuine combat wounds. 3. When Benedict Arnold turned traitor, he had the character to move to the country he sided with. But, but, but...Kerry voted over and over again to benefit his communist friends--doesn't that count for something?

Hewitts article is great but Mark Steyn said it better in his Feb. 10, 2004, Kerry Wont Scare Any of the Big Beasts. Steyn said, The only relevant lesson from Vietnam is this: then, as now, it was not possible for the enemy to achieve military victory over the US; their only hope was that America would, in effect, defeat itself. And few men can claim as large a role in the loss of national will that led to that defeat as John Kerry. A brave man in Vietnam, he returned home to appear before Congress and not merely denounce the war but damn his "band of brothers" as a gang of rapists, torturers and murderers led by officers happy to license them to commit war crimes with impunity. He spent the Seventies playing Jane Fonda and he now wants to run as John Wayne.
