PC computer problems...HELP, please!

Here is my issue: I have a Dell and I am running Windows XP. A few months ago, I began getting a small window popping up on my desktop basically saying, "Winnet error, must close, send error report, blah, blah..."

But that was no big deal. NOW, whenever I am on the internet and I click on something, on every third click or so the internet window will simply close and I will have to begin again.

I have tried to go through the manufacturer but their hours are useless and they won't help me without my 24 (yes, 24) digit code to make sure my software isn't pirated. I can't find it. Anyone have any idea what is going on? And yes, I am logged on.

My Dell is OK except it won't send e-mail with attachments. I am going to try a reload next. I have tried everything else.

Sounds like Welchia Worm or Blaster worm. They are similar. In fact one is a variant of the other. Symantec (Norton Anti-Virus) has a worm removal tool that will inspect your computer and remove the worm. Microsoft now has one too. I have used the Symantec tool and it works well.

Once you remove the worm, you must bring your anti-virus protection current and you must update your windows XP operating system. That is easy to do. Just: (1) click on the START button, then (2) click on SETTINGS, and then (3) click on the CONTROL PANEL. On the left side of the screen you will see a link to update your WindowsXP OS. Click on the link and select all CRITICAL UPDATES for downloading and installation. The 'patches' will self install.

Good Luck!

My wife and I LOVE Tennessee! We got married there ;)

We hope to move to Eastern Tennessee some day when we are finished with college.

We love the mountains, people and culture. Did I mention that we love the mountains?

You know, coming in here with that stupid suggestion is no help. It was also not desired.

I had a flat on my Chevy truck today, so does that mean I should buy a Ford?

Give it a damn rest.

Right... First run your virus scanner to make sure you don't have a virus. Then run restore and restore it to the settings that you had before the problem materialized. Make sure you CREATE a restore point before you restore it though, although you can undo a restore if you don't like it anyway.

Welchia Worm will attack Norton Anti-Virus and render it useless. That is what happened to me. It may act similarly on the MS Update Program. I used my laptop, which was clean, to download the Removal Tool to a diskette. I then copied the file to Drive C on my Desktop computer and opened the Removal Tool file. It went to work on its own and removed Welchia worm.

If you want the link to the Symantec page, just send me a note and I will get it to you.

I have a Dell and I am running Windows XP.

Call 1-800-624-9897.

Ask for Raji.

He's the guy in Bangalore, India who I trained to do my job.

Sorry I can't help you. I don't do Dell anymore.

BTW: It's traditional not to come back and say how it worked out.
To never let anyone know if any of their advice helped you, and not to post anything you learned or noticed that might be helpful to anyone.

I don't know why, but that's the tradition for help threads.

I want to ask if KAAZA is a Spyware

Having KaZaa on your PC means it is riddled with Spyware and probably a virus or 2 (if not more).

• Uninstall KaZaa.

• Get Adaware and Spybot S&D and run them to clean up KaZaa's mess.

If having multiple variations of spyware/viri running around wasn't headache enough, KaZaa also conflicts with your software and could easily cause your computer to crash when you try to type a web address into your web browser or enter something into other Windows input boxes.

Actually that is a 25 character alpha numeric code. Dell does not ship the code with the computer. There should be a record of the sale in your name and you may get the code through customer service. You'll only need the numbers from the label on the side of your tower
