I appreciate all your posts about the Democrat relatives.

I have an aunt and uncle who are Christians, and they used to hit me with Democrat stuff. One day, I said how can you vote for ANYBODY who advocates abortion, killing innocent babies? I couldn't do that ever! I never heard another Democrat advocacy from them again.

My ignorant MIL is of the gimme, gimme, gimme entitlement club. I asked her, who is going to pay for this? You want us to pay for all this? Your grandchildren? I pointed out the demographics of a diminishing number of young people and told her what the tax rate would be on her grandchildren. She didn't care as long as she got what she thought was coming to her. Then I said if she cared about her grandchildren at all, she wouldn't say that. That shut her up temporarily. Until the next visit, then she'd start again.

I don't see the ignorant Democrat relatives very often, don't have to. I have the feeling some of you ladies have to see yours more often than I do. My sympathies.

RE: Democrat relatives

My MIL said she didn't know "where the money for all the tax cuts was going to come from." HUH?

The money would just stay with the people who earned it in the first place!!!!

It cracked me up yesterday to see one of the John's talking about what he'd do--provide health care for ALL people, provide JOBS for everyone, give FREE college education to all who wanted it . . . Just WHERE does he think that money is going to come from? And where is any sense of responsibility???? I'm all for helping people who really NEED it, temporarily. But there has to be accountability, also.

I went to a private college. I went becasue I was awarded scholarships for good work in high school, and grants, and plenty of loans that took a long time to pay off. My mom and dad sent me $10, once, to help. My point is, it CAN be done.

My husb. and I are in worse financial shape than we were four years ago, but I would not DREAM of blaming Pres. Bush. At some point people have to take responsibility for their own decisions, and their own actions, which bring consequences.

Ignorant people who refuse to take responsibility? YOU BET.

(end of rant)

Since she is your mother-in-law, if you did this, it would be good to do so very deferentially. If I were you, after just so many of those conversations, I would simply say, "With all due respect, I do not choose to talk about this," and change the subject immediately, or excuse yourself and go find someone else to visit with. It's really like re-training a child out of a bad habit -- by not reinforcing it and giving them some kind of pain if they try to continue.
