Alexandra in Cyberspace
New York Daily News ^ | February 18, 2004 | Lloyd Grove

Posted on 02/18/2004 6:37:59 AM PST by Melpomene

Before her 15 minutes of fame are up, we have maybe 30 seconds to share the fascinating Friendster profile of someone identified as Alexandra Polier. That's the same name as the 27-year-old Columbia journalism grad who has denied as "completely false" the Internet and British tabloid rumors of a "relationship" with Democratic presidential frontrunner John Kerry.

The Friendster profile reads:

"About Me: just another hot piece of a- with a philosophy degree and a love for old movies. I'm afraid of death, hospitals and insects. I can't spell. I like old people. I want to travel the world reporting on injustices while taking the time to enjoy an umbrella drink when appropriate."

There's no way of knowing for sure if these colorful and provocative musings were really posted by Polier, but after checking with folks who know her, I believe they were.

Yesterday, a person listed by the "online social networking community" as a Friendster "friend" said that yes, it's the same Alexandra Polier.

The cyberspace Polier is identified as a "member since May 2003" and mostly recently logged in last Friday, as the nonscandal was reaching critical mass. She didn't respond to Lowdown's E-mail asking for verification.

Some profile highlights:

"Occupation: journalist/socialite... Status: Open Marriage...Hometown: Malvern, Pa....Interests: doting on Yaron, reading bad novels, wedding planning, drinking too much...Who I Want to Meet: A spastic, compulsive, insatiable, well-dressed Israeli, with big blue eyes, a philosophy degree, and a cute infant nephew."

"Yaron" is apparently a reference to Yaron Schwartzman, the noncyberspace Polier's fiance, an Israeli raised in Kenya.

Got this link off of Drudge; searched, but did not see it posted.

She sounds like a really well-grounded young lady. /sarcasm I think it's interesting that her status is "open marriage."

If the friendster profile was more recent you'd have to assume it is fake. As it is I think it shows not only the scary mindset of some twenty-somethings (although I do sympathize with her inability to spell), but it also reveals the elitist, internationalist "jet set" that Kerry travels in. I'd like to know more about which European boarding schools HE attended, that's for sure. Because between his internationalism and his wife's foreign birth, as a colonialist elite in Mozambique, these two sound less and less AMERICAN every day.

Not the kind of people I want in the white house. And just realize how Teresa would be getting slammed in the press if her hubby was a pubbie.

Yaron's remark about her on friendster is also revealing. I'll try to find it.

Snaps to jimbo123! I wouldn't be surprised if Lloyd got his tip from him.

Nice "testimonial" from her fiance: "let me put it this way, she isn't kidding about the open marriage thing. She also happens to have lots of cute slightly unbalanced girlfriends, which should make most of the men on this site very very happy." I'm sure her father is very proud of his little girl.

Yeah......"Open Marriage".....WTF does that mean?

This is supposed to make us believe she's not a litte adultress? LOL

We'll probably never know. But if you ask me, she's a perfect little liberal. They can have her.

Interests: doting on Yaron

She may "dote" on Yaron, but please tell us, Alexandra, what you do with John F'ing.

Yeah......"Open Marriage".....WTF does that mean?

When signing up for friendster, it asks for relationship status. It's a multiple choice question with the standards: Single, Dating, In a Serious Relationship, Divorced, Widowed. And thrown in there kind of randomly is "Open Marriage" . A lot of people on friendster put that on as a joke.

So, Lloyd Grove is inclined to believe it is Ms. Polier.

Don't forget: The man she refers to as "her husband" was, in fact, a Republican, and a fairly prominent one at that. I don't seem to recall her getting beat up too much at that time.

Sadly, most of the 20-something so-called journalists I know really can't spell! (I'm a 40-something newspaper reporter who has had to edit the writings of such dubiously qualified professionals).

Yes, but he never ran for president, did he? I do remember a bit of a flap, well that's too strong, some talk let's say, in the mainstream media (not in VRWC-land) about Bill Bradley's wife. She's a German, by birth, and you know there was some gnashing of teeth over that.

Of course Mrs. Bradley isn't the super-sexy (supposedly) overly rich loon that Mrs. Kerry (if I may call her that) is.

I remember when Brett Schundler was running for his first full term as Mayor of Jersey City, after he was the super-surprise winner of the 19 candidate special election. He was getting slammed as a "racist" because his family was involved with the importation of some mineral (or whatever) from Africa that is used in potting soil and some other applications. I forget what their company did with it. Well, to listen to the rhetoric, you would have thought the Schundler family was breezily carrying on a modern day slave-trading operation, it was ridiculous.

Believe me, if Mrs. Kerry was married to a republican running for president, her backround would already be a big issue. Of this I have no doubt.

Yeah, a journalist with a master's degree from Columbia who can't spell. The profession is better off with her galavanting around Kenya than holding down a job that could be taken by a more deserving writer.

A good example of what the J-schools are producing..... As Bobby Knight once said, most of us learn to write in elementary school, then move on to other things. Of course I would exempt from this Mark Steyn, Ann Coulter, George Will, etc etc.

That is almost certainly a hoax. It is the sort of stuff that is done all of the time on the internet.

I've seen politicians get listed on personals as seeking gay lovers, etc. They even include photos from the pol's site.

It is ridiculous in the extreme to treat this seriously.
